Rescue off of Bastille in Eldo
|
|
As we were coming down off Wind Tower today we heard a commotion at the base of the Bastille. Someone shouted up asking if a climber (at the top of the second pitch of The Bastille Crack) needed help. From where we were it looked like the climber had taken a lead fall onto the ledge and hurt their leg/foot. After about 45 minutes the Rocky Mountain Rescue (and assorted ambulance and fire crews) showed up. A rescue worker rap'd down from the top, splinted the climber's lower leg and rappelled down the rest of the face with the climber on their back. Looked like she/he was ok, I hope so... It was impressive to see the high-angle rescue team at work. |

+10 again for RMR! |

Wow! That middle pic...looks the rescued is bigger than the rescuer, AND they are carrying them with a pack! It also looks like the injured was able to help, with one leg, anyway. Hats off to anyone who does SAR stuff, and good on you for hanging out and making sure help was happening! |

Yes, iPhone 11. It has a pretty good camera (for a phone). We were trying to stay out of the way, so taken from across the creek at the base of the Whale's Tail. |

Another rescue in eldo today. Apparently near White Lightning on the West Ridge according to one SAR passing by. Serious but not life threatening according to another SAR member passing by moments later. Injured climber carried out past us just a bit later. I hope he/she is dong well and going to be ok. I believe I heard 24 year old male over the radio. But, not sure. I don't know anything else. There is no other thread on this topic at this time. Thank you SAR for what you do and how well you do it!! |
