Would you whip?

Rescued this #5 the other day, looks like it had been stuck for at least a year. Not really worried about the sling or anything else, but there is a decent amount of (surface?) rust on the metal connecting the lobes to the body of the cam.

So....

Would you whip?

100% would whip

I’d be more worried about the sling.  Even if it looks ok...if it’s been out as long as you think it has and exposed to the elements...

Yep, I would whip on it. Curious as to why BD used non stainless metal on a cam though.

You don't "whip" on OW protection. You slowly ooze down until weighted.

At least that's how I climb OW with my perma-TR cam pushed ahead of me.

If you want peace of mind you could send it in and get it reslung. They will clean it up and make sure its in working order.  I've sent rusty looking rock bootie with faded slings in before and they come back looking like new. Cheaper than purchasing a brand new cam.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
