When is the Gunks Reopening ?

RJ Bwrote: Thanks, but personally I can park at a friends’ and easily hike in without ever entering a parking lot. The website says that they open at 7 but someone posted that wasn’t accurate, I was curious if the closing time/rules were being upheld as well. Saying the parking lot is closed/locked is not the same thing as saying ‘no climbing past 7pm.” We all know some of the Preserves ‘rules’ aren’t enforced as advertised. |

JRZanewrote: Thats some sweet jersey spray, maybe ask your friend who lives in walking distance whats up. |

M Mobleywrote: elderly and non-climbers. my point is, the "rules" on the website are less than clear. I was just hoping for some kind folks to share some first hand experiences from the first weekend. not get into a debate with anyone about how righteous they are. I respect the preserve, I've quarantined like im supposed to, I avoided all climbing when it was proper to do so, I support programs at the preserve in addition to my Plus membership, and if the preserve would say something more explicit about climbing hours it would make things much easier. Lots of people use the preserve for lots of activities, not just climbing. Lets not forget, the "rules" are to be out by dark, but every weekend I see more than a couple headlamps on the walls and no one bats an eye. If I asked about night climbing would you still feel the need to chime in? or is this just a today thing? |

JRZanewrote: Not many folks actually admit to living in Jersey so I give you props for that. What does your friend down the street from the preserve say? |
|
|
M Mobleywrote: re-read the above post man. they are elderly. they mostly say shit like "why are these younger generations such a pain in the ass." I wish I had an answer for them. |

im guessing 7 o’clock means whenever the guy finishes dinner and bothers to come lock the gate up. Just hope it’s meatloaf night and you’ll be good. |

JRZanewrote: Gotcha the advantages of not needing a car. I found this on their website since I was also curious about their take on night climbing. |

We were out late yesterday and on a last climb for a while longer than expected. by the time we got down and out, there were still a ton of climbers around. as we were driving out of the top lot there was a bunch of cars still , but alot of people leaving at the same time as us. when I pulled out I noticed it was 7:05pm. I felt bad because I forgot that they were to close up at 7pm. in any case there was someone there at the booth.. he looked like he was ready to get out of there. I wonder what happened with the others that were still in the lot. |
