He continued, “Yosemite’s big walls begin in designated Wilderness, but due to the variables involved in this activity a wilderness permit system for overnight walls has not been implemented in the past.” That statement makes me nervous. Carpooling, traveling by bus, or walking in are all acceptable means to climb overnight in the Park without needing the Multi-day Big Wall Climbs parking pass. Is there somewhere outside of the park boundaries that we can leave our car for five or six nights and bike in? McGahey stresses that once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted parking permits for overnight climbs will no longer be required. Nervous. |

Who s been climbing up there? The overnight parking permit is not required for residents (includes Yo WEst, Wawona, etc...) |

Several parties have been getting after it. |

Had a great trip up the salathe with no other parties in sight. Climbing rangers made the parking permit supet easy to get, not a hassle at all. |

Jplotzwrote: update... So what happens if you don't plan to spend a night on a wall and end up having an unplanned bivy? |

If excited beginners A&B start Royal Arches at 8am and get down at 10-11pm, five hours after they planned to be on the ground, do they need an overnight? day passes are good from 5am-11pm "Day-use permits are not valid for overnight use (the park is only open to day-use permitholders from 5 am to 11 pm)." So if they can't get out of the park by 11pm, they would face potential ticket/fine/sodomy |

Add to this that if said excited beginners (or any NIADs or other IAD wallers that are not as fast as they hoped they would be) want to be responsible and get their overnight parking permit they would need to wait until 10:30 to get their parking permit making the ascent impossible due to the late start. That or they'd need to show up a day before their trip between 10:30am-12:30pm or 4pm-5pm to get said permit which is not always something that is possible for those of us that are 9-5ers. I get it and I'm happy to follow the regulations, but I feel like it would be not only easier for bigwallers, but more efficient for rangers as well to allow for the overnight parking permits to be somethign you can get and print out online via email. |

My partner and I reached out with questions regarding getting a permit in the case of an unplanned bivy. We were told about the 10 am meet up day before or day of the climb (the latter would most definitely result in potential need to bivy). Anyway, we followed up and and asked if we could facetime the ranger instead. Definitely happy to share our plans and talk about the rules, but the 10 am meetup seemed to over complicate things. No response. Luckily we've sorted out a campsite since then. |

Unfortunately, overnight parking permits are only available through a face to face meeting with a Yosemite Climbing Ranger. |

Hey all - Turns out they only responded to my partner and not to me as well and I was not aware. What Brandon said above is the current word. |
