Whilst gyms are temporarily closing all over the country what are you doing to keep in climbing shape?

Directed at weekend warriors without woodies, though input from all is appreciated.

Running, stairs, random stuff with bowflex dumbbells, hangboard. WFH is nice for doing a few squats, hangs in between calls.

I havn't tried it out yet but samsaramtntraining.com made one of his at home core training routines free with the code c19free. It's supposedly all designed to need no equiptment, just floor space. Should be good for something more structured when stuck at home

You can do pullups, pushups, jumping, rope solo and maintain your diet. Eat healthy and stay healthy.

House and yard projects galore, including three yards of compost to move (delivered yesterday, just as the email went out the business was shutting).

TRX straps arrived, and the weights will be dusted off.

But yesterday! I went for a bike ride, all over town.

It is FABULOUS bike conditions, with so few cars out!!

I must say, the reason why sucks, but seeing so many people walking dogs, pushing strollers, actually playing with their kids.... that's a pretty huge plus.

A lot of others felt that way too. Nods and smiles from pretty much everyone.

Maybe we will relearn some things we should never have forgotten.

Best, Helen

for cardio: running and riding my bike trainer in the basement (there are a lot of free spin and interval training videos on youtube that are pretty good)

all else: i've also got a hangboard and a few dumbbells in the basement, plus doing the usual exercises (push-ups, crunches etc.)

Kettle bell ~30-50 lbs.

  1. place on ground between feet
  2. hinge down in Deadlift move/explode up bring kettle bell to chest
  3. with KB at chest do a squat, deep as possible
  4. at top of squat overhead press KB
  5. Return KB to floor between feet

That is one rep, do 10-12 reps

Pullups, pushup and planks between sets of KB.

This is perhaps more for skiing than climbing, but it’s a quad burner for sure.

Basically, squats, but clipped into skis.

Did I invent this?
Probably not.

Am I a genius?
Yes, but that’s irrelevant.

Am I stoked to have realized this was an option?Am I stoked to share it here?
Am I a member of the turtle club?
YOU BET YOUR ASS I AM!

(They’re even tougher if you avoid the rest of laying and dont go all the way down.)

not sure if theyre more effective than regular squats or jump squats, but I’m stoked nonetheless

Weather has warmed up here in Northern CA so I have been out couple times with my paddleboard. Even took my dog with me today!
While climbing is my primary sport, I also discovered stand-up paddling last year and got very fond of it. Luckily it's easy to stay away from others while on board so I'm grateful for having a board!

And this in addition to pushups, pullups, crunches, and stretches, of course! Over the door hanger and a hangboard help tremendously!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
