What's the story with Gravity One gym in Broomfield?

You'll wanna have good footwork VS walls are the least-textured walls I've ever climbed on. Nearly impossible to smear....which is good as it forces setters to set feet that make sense. |

The gym is now fully open and operational. Hours are 6AM-10PM Mon-Fri and 8AM-8PM Sat/Sun. |

Does anyone know if I'm misunderstanding this? An advertised benefit to buying a membership is that you get "guest passes." This was a major selling point for me because my partner gives me his monthly guest pass at Earth Treks and I told him I'd return the favor at G1. |

I don't agree with it but that was the policy at Movement before it recently changed to not have the first time visitor restriction after the merger of ET, Planet Granite, and Movement gyms |

@JohnRB - I’m not clued in on G1’s explicit policy, but based on the website stating “... new to G1” in the terms, that interpretation sounds accurate. I think it’s a benefit iff there’s no such “first time is free” offer *without* being a member’s guest. If I recall correctly, this type of membership guest pass offer/terms/policy aligns with the guest pass policy at Movement & Earth Treks, no? That being said, I’m currently in Seattle where Vertical World offers 1 free guest visit a month regardless of first time or not. It’s a model I really appreciate and find super rational: encourages membership growth and a fosters a welcoming community without leaving too much day pass $’s on the table. Definitely seems like a riskier model to make net positive for everyone, though. |

Ah, so El Cap/Earth Treks is now offering/driving the “no restrictions” policy locally? |

Thanks guys... I didn't realize this was a widespread policy in other gyms! I climbed at Earth Treks for 2 years before recently joining G1. They always had the "one guest per month, no restrictions" policy at Earth Treks for the time I was a member there. Even when I was a member of City Rock (in 1990... one of the first gyms in the US), they allowed one guest per month, no restrictions. |

Do they check IDs? Last gym I went to didn't so the one time guest pass policy was hard to enforce. |

Did it change to 1 per month? Free guest passes seem generous in any amount.Gotta love Colonel Jessup.;) |

EVO in Louisville has the same policy and I agree that it is ass. I’m sure they would do the same for someone who walks in off the street and wants to try out the gym. So really there is no benefit there at all. |

If I go over to either gym right now, off the street, and tell them “i’m thinking about joining, can I try it out today?” I guarantee they would let me. |

Also, replying to another post above, I may be wrong about "1 guest per month" at El Cap/Movement/Earth Treks. I can ask someone what it is, but I'm not a member there anymore. My buddy has a joint membership with his gf, so they may get more than a single person would get?! |

Most, if not all, gyms have an electronic waiver that you have to fill out, so if someone has an existing waiver, they have obviously been to the gym. Even pre-electronic waivers might be tracked, or at least be in a file. I suppose you could fill out a fake name and address each time, but keeping track of the fake entries would take more mental energy than it is worth. |

Movement's guest policy WAS one guest/month, provided the guest had never been to Movement. |

Climbed there last Friday. Great gym. Had a ton of fun. Friendly staff who gave me zero pressure to join or do a belay test and I appreciated that because i'm an outdoor kinda guy. I left bleeding and couldn't raise my arms above my head. I did every problem under V4 and every single one of them were thought out, flowed as smooth as water and felt right to me. |
