What’s up with this new trend of people starting BP’s one move in or from an entirely different start holds? I’ve noticed in a couple different places out west. Many of these (obviously) remove hard moves or the crux. Anyone else notice other climbers eliminating hard moves down low by “starting” elsewhere than the original start?

I try to spend as much time as possible worrying about how other people climb

I have, even... (GASP!!!) seen people climbing up the wall in the gym, using ALL color holds, instead of just one!

Looks like you've discovered that MP only respects climbing unroped if you'll die when you fall, lol!

Assuming you mean outside, boulder problems can be pretty arbitrary, especially on a rock with jillions of possibilities. Working a problem in a way that works for you? That's the only way I can climb anything, roped or not.

But, don't assume what you think you are seeing. I boulder with a guy who is quite good. When he's working his stuff, he may start on the end, the crux, or whatever he wants dialed before he sends it. Or, he is doing an outside workout or warmup.

Setting up problems for me? The first thing is figuring out how to get me off the thing. Then, it's whatever he thinks I just might get if I work it. Super fun!

As for ticking these? I tick stuff mainly to remember just which one I was on, and then note whatever is pertinent, including if I 'only' worked one part. Keeping track of any progress I get really helps.

Like someone said, just be straightforward about it.

Last? Maybe ask someone, nicely, about the "variation" they are doing. You could just luck into something great, like a V9-10 willing to coach a Vzippity nothin!

Edit a title back in. We aren't all jerks. Well, not all the time. I've had coffee.

Best, Helen

Don't laugh, people; this is completely ruining my climbing experience.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
