Knot exam paper... test your current knowledge!

I mean, wow.
It's like a new horizon in pedantry.
I usually avoid these technical threads- how many knots does a climber really need to know anyway?
4? 5?
But if you guys are hiding this kind of fascinating inter-personal dynamic within them, I may just be able to learn something.
Just not about knots.

I am happy to be classified as a hobbyist/enthusiast knot tyer.
By making such a comment - what exactly is it that you are attempting to achieve?
Mr Titt, do you feel powerful?
Did I claim to be an 'expert' (in something)? Can you find the exact typed words in this forum where I made a formal declaration that I am an 'expert'?
If you fail to find explicit words to that effect, would you feel obliged to tender an apology?

I am laughing at you.
Are your feelings hurt in some way? Which combination of typed words on a key board hurt your feelings?
You made a disparaging comment about me.
Now back it up.
Show me the evidence where i declared myself to be a knot 'expert'.

I am searching for technical papers about knots authored by a Mr Titt.. Can you please help me so that I may download and understand them?

In order to access and use my intellectual property, you will have to contact me to gain my express permission.

I'm glad to have benefitted from your work while you were making it available.  Sequestering it behind a password will substantially limit its dissemination, which I think is a loss for the climbing community generally, and even more so for "people like me" who are both interested in knots and have backgrounds in science.

Knots? I'm just a "user". My expertise lies in other fields.  By the way, you can leave the technical paper I authored up on the PACI website, I have no intention of firewalling it.

From what you and others have said, I don't doubt that for a moment. I was just commenting that his motivation now appears to be something other than what it first appeared.

Have we met?
Do you know me personally?
What evidence do you have to support such a remark?
And why would you feel compelled to even make such a comment?

For my own understanding, would you please share what my 'motivation' is?
Once I know what you think my 'motivation' is, maybe we can work through your personal issues?

Maybe we're now dealing with a bot using machine learning and AI.

This is one of the most bizarre threads I've ever read through on any internet forum.... and I've been on some pretty out there forums over the past 20+ years of internet use.

I think Marc801 is on to something with the machine learning...

The internet has it now.  [Insert evil laugh]

Top Tip: never post anything online you intend to sell later. True, it could be hard to find - but with wayback and other sites that essentially scrape the entire internet daily and download as much as possible to "Archive", you might want to think twice.

Wow what a strange thread.

I’m going to try this in my life.

I will provide unsolicited information.
If someone points out that my information is contradicted by other reliable sources, I will:

A. Say that the sources are not reliable.
B. Say the sources don’t exist.
C. Accuse the questioner of being unqualified.
D. Say my true thoughts on the subject are private, proprietary, and unavailable.

And finally,

E. Say that my questioner is engaging in a personal attack!

Then take your ball home so no one else can play (the link in the OP is now firewalled).

With the notation  "You must contact PACI to obtain express permission to use this document. Failure to do so is a crime known as stealing."

(Note: he has no ability to copyright or in any way restrict the promulgation and use of the knots themselves.)

I learned a few things, and was one of the few who tried to defend him where he was defensible.  His work was a nice addition to the knowledge base, but hardly a critical one.  The overwhelming majority of climbers will never use or think about anything he's got in those firewalled papers.  If he wants to hoard all that work (and I suppose sell it to his clients) that's his prerogative.  It makes no difference to the climbing world in general, and his presence on the forum turned out to be a distraction, "...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,"  as Macbeth would have said.
