BD SLC manufacturing layoffs and manufacturing moves from Utah to Overseas

Hey All-

Was in a store the other day picking up some rap rings and the sales gal commented that BD cams were going to be made overseas again, but only be assembled in the US.

It also sounds like they layed off a number of employees in the SLC manufacturing side of things.

If found this thread talking about "overseas" lay offs [ mountainproject.com/forum/t…], but this comment was about SLC lay-offs.

Any info would be appreciated.

So, they made this decision after 'Tariff man' said he was bringing manufacturing back to the US? Fucking wack, instead of tariffs, the gov't should give incentives to companies who manufacture their goods here. Tariffs don't seem to be working.

Helpful link; attitude, not so much.  I have no clue who that news group is, but it never came up on my search.

What on earth was your search term?

"One of the tough things is to keep this amazing BD culture, which borders on a cult, while at the same time be one of the most competitive performing brands in the industry. That's not an easy feat."

but it is easier for you to make more $$$ by cutting 70 local jobs? What kind of corporate BS talk is this? Invest in America not overseas, its pretty simple really.

So the govt should give incentives to a company like Ford or GM to keep business here?

Manufacturing where there are less regal and cheap labor. BD is no different than any other mega Corporation (like Adidas)

"In a store the other day picking up rap rings" is the best humble brag I've heard today.

Yep, everyone should be happy that the richest people in the US continue to double their investments! We should start a cheerleader squad, maybe call it the FOX squad? Maybe the pro-slavery movement?

That link is to a reddit thread, that includes discussion from multiple BD employees, including several that got laid off, and provides you with all of the information you're asking for.

I don't think you know how to use the internet very well.

You mean the one with multiple current employees doing damage control with spin?  I dont think you know how to choose your sources well.

Regardless, the other poster got a good story and interview.  For that I am grateful; thanks!

It isn’t just Righty’s that do this shit. Heaps of companies move overseas that seem deemocrat backed or run.

Everyone hates on Walmart (with good reason). But most of them have a prime account and bitch about Amazon. Putting your money where your mouth is goes a long way and most people should rather have more cheap stuff than support a moral company.
I work in the energy sector and see how the wind industry claims they are short people, but they pay a shit wage and want people to work 70 days on/7 days off. All while making half the rate you would elsewhere.

Ah yes, such a great interview, with the president of the company, who wouldn't have any interest in "damage control with spin". Excellent choice in source sir.

NPR (im kai risdol!) cheerleads as well as all the major networks, FOX is the worst though. Consumerism in this country is at an all time high yet manufacturing jobs are at an all time low. None of this is sustainable and becomes especially sad when companies we have trusted with our lives for decades fire 70 people in order to create low paying jobs in Asia
