Got mine today.  If it's a knock-off, it's a pretty damn good one.

A google search for them (backpacking-united) brings up a lot of scamy talk. I would be VERY wary. Good luck and let us know what you find.

So, I did order a bag on backpacking-united and it worked fine.  But n=1, so I wouldn't take this as gospel.  And it gives you the option to pay with PayPal, which gives you an extra layer of scam protection.  I'd say trust your gut though.

If you want a legit deal on a decent assisted braking device, B̶a̶c̶k̶c̶o̶u̶n̶t̶r̶y̶ (sold out) and Trekkinn have Beal Birdies for $56

I ordered a Birdie and a locker from Trekkinn almost two weeks ago and still haven't received anything.

Still seems legit (got a response from a human when I inquired) but if you are looking to get something quickly I'd look elsewhere.

Trekkinn is legit but takes a long time. Waited a month for some slings. It's coming from Europe so it takes awhile to go through customs

Trekinn shipping is highly variable. I’ve had it take 8 days or 6weeks but everything has gotten here. I think some is drop shipped to them from vendors and then re shipped and I also think they bulk ship it at certain times that f the month via the Netherlands post based on my experiences. iE I think they put all the NA bound stuff on a truck and drive it to NL post depot. Total speculation but I watch tracking numbers out of curiosity.

Nah, I have too many ropes as it is. But if it actually works and isn't a scam, it would be a killer deal. These normally retail for $200 a piece and you could get a pair for <$150.

What is the word with Trekkin, I heard they charge you more later?

I've used them, no problems. No charging later (for me. Never heard that before).

Shipping can take a long time, like 3-4 weeks. So its probably not worth ordering something you might potentially want to return.

Trekkinn, Snowinn, and all associated websites (more than a dozen) are a legit business based in Spain. Some sort of large purchaser which has access to bulk discounts and resells direct to consumer. Their only potential issue is the fact that they don't make it particularly clear whether an item is in stock or not. I've bought stuff which has shipped right away and made it from Spain to the US in under a week but I've also waited almost 2 months for a pair of pants. I've never had an order flat out cancelled, I've never been charged twice, and I've always been really happy in the end even if it's taken a while. As mentioned above, don't buy if you need the item right away. If you don't, knock yourself out, their prices are unbeatable. Unless you can find the item on telemark-pyrenees.com in which case you should get it there, they always ship super fast.

Can we get this forum back on track and list "Great Online Deals" and move the "scam site" and "counterfeit gear" discussions to its own thread. I keep thinking there is a great deal only to find out somebody is worried because they used PayPal F&F to buy something on www.boratsellbestclimbtool.kz

Petzl Micro traxion for $69.40 + shipping

Shipping is $23 for me so $92 total. $84 free delivery for Prime from Amazon still a better deal.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
