Why Do Some Climbers HATE Bouldering?

What a novel point of view which I'm sure has not been expressed in the past 15 pages...

If you use bouldering to get stronger for other types of climbing than bouldering is great,

If you only boulder and do not climb sport, trad and alpine  (or have aspirations too) you are missing a huge percentage of the activity of climbing (and you are most likely afraid).

Bouldering is practice for sport climbing

Sport climbing is practice for trad climbing

Trad climbing is practice for alpine climbing.

Alpine climbing is practice for dying.

On the other hand, if you "only climb trad" and dont climb anything harder than 5.8 that is just as lame as only bouldering.

Being a specialist is cool, but only after you've sampled all the flavors.

Aren't you cute. Hangs and falls on 5.11, boulders V3, and calling out old dudes.

I'm 56 and can still send V10, and warm up on 5.12 all the time.
You gotta try harder than that if you wanna go at the old grumpies.

Im old too and dont feel the need to explain anything to the gomers. Plus trad climbing takes commitment ,  commitment is a bad word for the up and coming climbers. Just the gym fees alone are enough commitment right?

Now back to comparing penises

Nah, no one cares about what I climb, which is why I don't go around trying to spray about grades.

No hate here, but my disinterest in bouldering mirrors my disinterest in treadmilling or jogging up down-escalators when I can't be out in the mountains, or skiing in indoor ski centers in summer, even though both might make me better at the real thing. I'm not an athletic or competitive person; I just enjoy the airiness and exposure and find cliffs to be some of the most beautiful places in nature. Boulders don't inspire me for the same reason the gym doesn't inspire me. I'm not interested in pushing myself physically. I could see myself changing my mind in the future though if I ever come to enjoy climbing movement as much as aesthetics/exposure. That's the worthless tuppence, subject to change, of a not particularly experienced climber, but the thread is a bit low quality anyway, so w/e.

Well that was a depressing monologue.

This.

I do not like bouldering.  I am also bad at it.  These two things are directly related.

If you think you sit around doing nothing bouldering you should try properly projecting a sport route, 45 minutes sat in a harness while the climber barely moves more than 4 meters while he tries moves with all the different beta under the sun. This is also while being somewhat violently jerked towards the wall as the climber falls, again and again and again.

Bouldering it's like a 5-10 minute break between serious attempts with lots of climbing for everyone while you  all work out the beta.

Bouldering is hard and scary. I've never hit the ground trad, sport, or ice climbing.

Find Rock. Climb Rock. (Don't Die.)

It is the basis of all other rock climbing

Do some Climbers Hate Climbing?

Rock Climbing Is an exercise in futility & nothing emphasizes that more than Small rock Yo-Yo-ing

Bouldering came first , Every fall is a ground fall.  Pads help,  Pads are aid,  Pads ruined bouldering

Pursuing purity is brutally honest, It is a "SEND-IT" game; Send or Fail -  No cheating

"Beta" is cheating, Chalk Tick marks are cheating, Spotting is cheating, Pads are cheating

The reason for hating on anything is always the same; If one can't rise up to game ? Try to tear it down.

Pebble Wrestling,  Pad people,  Small Rock Messaging, Boulder Massaging,  Bare`back `Bienie`Wankers,                                                                                                                           Stone Ticklers, Rock Tickers, Yankin' Wankers, Yank`n planters, Tough-Tuggers,  Ugly Landers (come`n go splat' I'L'smoke that & Spilt* beer) *Spilled Brew is a sin to a few

The thing is rock climbing should be defined by the "verb"  "Climbing",
& not by all the modifiers now applied to it: "Hanging out Catching some pad time" - hang or dangle till you get up something.

Every  fall is a ground  fall, I am not afraid of falling, I am afraid of the  ground.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
