I'll have to see if they will add this to the Redpoint Excuse shirt.

Odd, I am no longer seeing pictures on forum posts, did my picture post?  Is it my computer or a system thing...

Your Smith Rock T-shirt is visible.

These are all valid excuses and can apply everywhere and for everyone.     We could all add to the list...

Happening to me too this morning. But since I'm also IE, I can't answer your question.

Edit: on chrome now and I can see the photos.

That shirt is awesome. I don’t use most of those, but cold, bogus bolt placements, and it’s harder cause I’m short are My excuses of choice! Along with I hate overhangs, and I don’t do heel hooks!

...and I hate bouldering.

No need to hate ^^^ just say it does not interest you. You can start your own HATE page on another thread.

Mr. Constine, please note, Mr. Orsag did not actually state that he does not boulder...

Why doesn't that Smith shirt include "I haven't had any coffee"?

I have not used "too tall".

:-)

Funny you should mention that Helen. I am trying to train myself not rely upon my height in climbing but to move up my legs as I go. I have a long reach and it allows me to skip a lot of technique in climbing... not good!

Ticked a brand new area today while visiting my two girls. Perfect Spring day in Central Park. Cool arete at Cat Rock.

I just noticed there's another (REI) post about Dierdre Wolownick (Alex Honnold is her son). Interesting interview: https://www.rei.com/blog/climb/dierdre-wolownick-on-being-the-oldest-woman-to-climb-el-capitan-and-also-alex-honnolds-mom
What she says reminds me of my mom.

I was a girl. Girls could only be secretaries, or teachers, or nurses—that was it. And then they got married and some man took care of them.

Every time I read something like this, I just shudder, and I think how lucky I was to grow up without that. I was definitely oblivious to a lot of things, but I was never under the impression that I had to get married and have kids. Thank goodness.

Oh I boulder all right Jeff! My hatred (and that is how I would honestly describe it) of it is based off my inability, no matter how hard I try, to achieve at the same level that I do as a sport climber or even a trad climber. I do force myself to practice bouldering so that if I confront an overhang/bulge/roof on an otherwise vertical or slabby sport climb, I am not totally flummoxed. Nothing enjoyable about those bouldering training sessions though nothing. Moves are awkward contorted lunges. Not fun or flowing/fall a lot. So yep, sticking with hate...

Thanks for posting and commenting on this!

Since it's Mother's Day.... Same stories from my mom - and she made sure to instill independence in me and my sister and encouraged us to be our own people. Maybe a little too much of a 'you don't need to get married' message - both of us were almost afraid to tell her when we decided to get married - we thought she'd be disappointed in us (she wasn't)! She also was/is a very gifted athlete, but the only options she had for sports in school was cheerleading (which she did and hated). She started running marathons in her 40's, raced bikes in her 50's (has a couple of Colorado State Champion titles) and did her 1st triathlon at 60 (she had to learn to swim) after a cancer diagnosis/treatment. Now at 77, with a pretty severe pulmonary condition, she goes to the gym every day and is tough as nails.

My mom is a nurturer. She's always taken care of other people (still does at 86).

She's the type to support you in whatever your endeavors are.

I'll never forget the 70m Edelrid dry rope and fire' rock boots she bought me when I was 17

There's been SO much progress on this front.

I know a little girl (2nd grade) who is a very successful child actor here in LA. Like some years she probably makes more money than most of us. You know what she's saving her money for? To go to MIT or CALTECH and become a rocket scientist! I just love the idea of a girl using her on-camera talent and beauty to become a rocket scientist instead of to catch a man, like she'd have been told to do in the 1950s. Or even to just keep working in front of the camera.
