It depends what you are looking for. The "big 3" are Rifle, Maple, and Tensleep. Each is awesome, each has its own flavor. Doing a circuit of all three areas is a great way to spend a summer. If you only have to choose one place to visit... |

Spearfish Canyon and Rushmore area. |

+1 for Ten Sleep. Beautiful canyon, tons of rock, if you're looking for 11s-13s you'll be very well supplied. |

Ten Sleep has got the sheer volume but for extended stays I have a soft spot for the Lander area. Though it can be a bit warm, various secluded crags keeps things fresh. The quaint downtown, some bouldering, Gunky, the Popo slide, and hiking in the Winds/Tetons make rest days some of the best days! |

It seems like the main crags are in sun until fairly late in the day. Having to wait until late afternoon to climb gets old fast. Or is there some sweet shade-chasing beta I missed? |

Probably Ten Sleep. |

I mean I've definitely climbed at Obed mid-summer, but I would not recommend it as a summer destination, more just as a 'slightly less miserably swampy' part of the south to go to if you are living down there. Best to save it for fall/spring in my opinion. |
