https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/language-matters-lets-stop-using-the-slang-word-for-carabiner I'm sure only civil and insightful conversation will come out of this |
| | Already been discussed on MP. Not a new topic. Consensus if I recall is that saying biner is okay. |
| | I think the difference is in using the word "BINER" as opposed to "BEANER"...see the difference??? |
| | For a related discussion on etymological misunderstandings, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_%22niggardly%22 |
| | Climbers now: "I have krabs" |
| | I have never known anyone to refer to a carabiner as a beaner so problem solved? |
| | In the words of the ever enlightened Joe Rogan....   are there noises Im not allowed to make with my mouth now??? |

| | Ughh. Glad my climbing club isn't having this debate. I think we can safely assume that most Latinos are smart enough to get context and will not be offended by "biner". |
| | Can I call them biners, like BUYners? |

| | I don't have a problem using the word "'biner," even being Mexican American. |

| | Should we stop using the word 'cracker' to describe the crispy snack? |
| | Since we already use word like arête, avalanche, col, couloir, dièdre, glacier, piton, rappel, etc., why not mousqueton? |
| | Señor Arroz wrote: Can I call them biners, like BUYners? Absolutely not. Why are you assuming that they are buyner-y? Let them decide. |
| | colin doyle wrote: "Biner" is a shortened form of "carabiner " Nygger is not a shortened form of anything. There's the difference. Biner is just easier to say. Like "chute" for "parachute." Because it's easier, I shall continue to use it. |
