I was thinking about cheating my way to 5.12s but are steroids any better than etriers?

Good chance it won't get you there. Most people can't climb 5.12 because they lack technique, endurance, and efficiency. Pretty sure adding a bunch of muscle weight quickly won't address any of these.

Do it.....just so you reduce your chances of contributing to a future gene pool.

Magnus Mitbø campused 5.12 was that through technique and efficiency?

Magnus probably took his time developing the upper body required to climb 5.12 routes. Also, it's not a mutually exclusive relationship you need both to climb higher grades.

I can ask strawman questions too. Are you saying that every muscle head who can do tons of pull ups (or salmon ladder) can climb 5.12?

Back to the original question though.

Are you competing with anyone or earning money from your climbing? Then yes, probably unethical.

Are you interested in seeing what your body can do, regardless of consequences? Totally fine. Shortsighted and reckless, but fine.

Are you low T and just want to respond to exercise like normal people? Totally fine if you follow docs instructions.

Are you older and want to stretch those good years? That's your call man.

I still assert that for the average young man/woman who is breaking into higher grades, roids just may be a hindrance.

Magnus didn’t campus the first 5.12 he’s ever sent.

At the point when he recorded campusing that 12b climb for a bet, he was climbing a heck of a lot harder than that, and he was not trying to prove to anyone that campusing was the most effective and efficient way to climb that route.

So I’m not sure what’s your point? Magnus can campus a route several number grades below his limit?  Yeah, sure!

Etriers are for couscous munching, self-loathing jerkoffs with no sense of dignity or self-respect. Roid it up dude!

Stick-ciipping is likely easier than etriers, but if the bolts are close and you get good at high-stepping with two etriers, then etriers would be faster (and more fun).

The other approach is:
* find a climbing area with easy grading - (some crag at RRG?)
* climb lots at a modern indoor gym.
* do some basic finger-strength training.

That should get you to redpointing some 5.12 if you're young and not yet injured.

Chemicals could speed that process. But there are risks. Which seem unnecessary for reaching 5.12.

Ken

P.S. Why 5.12 as your number?
? Not enough interesting 11s where you normally climb?

There’s a well known American climber who allegedly has taken roids for decades and he crushes. Shit dont stop at 5.12, 5.14 should be goal if youre thinking about the juice!

If I take steroids, will I stop being an aid climber?

'roids don't work without the fish heads, climbing friend - and not together either unless in the right ratio of 'roids and 'heads!

Im betting roids would weaken tendons and open you up to injury fast.

I don't need to look it up because A. I know how steroids work and B. I have people like you to do it for me.
