Marcelo F wrote: The ones that use their real names Out of curiosity why does everyone think using their birth name is the best username? In the digital age where everyone wants to keep their information private I am surprised this is the popular opinion of MP.. |

master gumby wrote: How about this: MP is a place about climbing routes and information about said climbs. I like to know the real names of climbers who’s information I will be using. Not some clown with a made up name who has nothing to say. |

Re. the "real names" debate. I was a big proponent of that for decades (Been online since the early 1990s, btw.) but it really only took one person stalking and physically threatening me over, get this, my STRAVA cycling app not turning off and me accidentally beating his "King of Mountain" record in my car, before I made it just a little harder to find me. Obviously, lots of people here know who I am IRL and I'm not trying to run some kind of undercover operation, but there are plenty of good reasons not to use your birth name all over the internet. |

Sir Rice.... I don’t know who you are. You really from LA? |

I got an angry Facebook chat message (!) 3 days ago about an old (like 7 years old) Amazon review that did not include an appropriate spoiler warning. |

That’s a priceless story. Braw should take up mtb? I can’t say I’ve ever given a crap what name was attached to beta here. It’s either good or bad, buyer beware.Maybe decreasing the anonimity of the Internet would make people more polite and accountable. Maybe it would stifle the free flow of ideas and people would punt off as many bad ideas and vitriol as they do on their fb accounts. Hard to say.... Burchy’s had some great usernames. He should, all the practice he’s gotten! I’ll always appreciate a good Elena Sera Jose troll though. Nothing better than bad troll. |

To the OP’s question... my favorite username is “Laramide Erogenous”. (Hint: it has to do with geology) |
