I started a thread that I want to delete, how do I do that??? It has become a morass of name calling.

Sounds like a pretty standard MP forum occurrence.

It’s not just your post. A lot of the postings I have read have the same issue.
I wish there was a “block” feature. It would be a much more enjoyable forum to read and participate in.

The polarization of our society into tribes. There doesn't seem to be room in any of these discussions for moderates. You either agree or get lambasted by the know it all's (who actually don't know shit). You don't see guys like rgold or Tony B calling people names or being rude. Most of the really good posters that have actual experience and put thought into their posts don't even come here anymore because of all the shit for brains on this site. Present company excluded, of course.

Good Monday morning to you too Luke!

So you do not know it’s Monday?
You must be like me, retired or your on a road trip and loose track of the days or you’re unemployed and in that case every morning is a Monday morning.
But no worries man, it’s Monday, the sun is up and it’s going to be another beautiful day!
But look at the whole thread turd deal- larger problem-Some folks just fall all over themselves trying to #1: show off their awesome knowledge #2: show you, again, this awesome knowledge #3: convince you to agree and heap praise on them for showing you “the proper, Only way”#4: call you bad names if you don’t agree#5: call you bad names and stalk you on to other forums.
This is the way it is on the internet
Edit: Buck nice reply above.

Getting back to the original question: you can delete your post(s) but once there is a reply, the only people who can delete a thread are the MP developers (and possibly the admins, although I'm not sure about that) hence the suggestion to contact Nick Wilder.

Who cares? It'll be relegated to the oblivion of the internet in another day or two.  I've been lurking on RC.com and MP for almost two decades, and you eventually just learn to identify and accept the life cycle of the avid post-noob forum member.  They often have a full rack and perhaps have climbed 5.6 at the Gunks, and, without fail, feel they have fully shed any and all relation to "noob" status. Solely armed with limited outdoor experience and theoretical knowledge, they burst onto the scene with textbook dictums concerning gear and techniques, often amassing post-counts into the thousands.  Their posts often include phases like "I like to do X" or "I prefer X", but upon investigation you quickly realize these preferences are not based on actual experience or by hard-won knowledge, but on things they learned on the internet and now proselytize as gospel.  Links to test videos or spec charts from manufacturers often follow.  They use the pseudo-anonynimity of the internet to cling to their weakly-argued stances, and exhibit a complete lack of humility or deference to folks who have vastly more experience, ability, and knowledge.  The multiple forum tete-a-tetes between Messrs. Wilder and Kerkeslager (on hilarious display once again in your thread) are a shining example of this phenomenon.

The bad news is that the majority of MP forum content is created by people in this particular stage in their climbing career.  Most of the arguments on here are between these types, and, for better or worse, most experienced members have learned long ago to avoid these types of skirmishes.  The good news is that these folks almost always come and go.  You'll see a new name crop up in multiple forums and think "uh oh, _this_ guy..."  Suddenly they're posting everywhere and anywhere.  They quickly establish themselves as "regulars", and meet any challenge to their newly minted position with swift rebuke (said charts and videos).  But they rarely last.  Usually by the 2-year mark they've burned out or disappeared.  If they make it past this point, they've usually actually learned enough or chilled out enough to become decent contributors.  There are the rare Bearbreeder-type exceptions to this rule, but the perennial pedants are thankfully few and far between.  And even _he_ pretty much self-immolated.

If you want to "fix" MP (or at least, to address the issue you're referring to), just make a requirement that you can't post outside of the Beginner/ForSale/PartnerFinder forums unless you've been a member for 2 years.  Elitist and undemocratic?  Yes, but boy would it be nice.

It's not a bad as OP makes it out to be.  The only thing going on in that thread is King Tut doing what he does best: argue with everyone.

Yeah, I've seen a lot worse.

Easy to go online and argue, troll or spew, often anonymously.

Also easy to not go there...
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
