Unless you are climbing somewhere without cell signal you can troll after you finish every pitch.

No I still have a classic flip phone. I hate computers.

Thanks for keeping the thread going Jeff. You are just a bully with low self-esteem.

I have no interest in setting a speed record because speed climbing is stupid. Duh.

Jeff, how do you feel about the genre of speed metal? Has it enhanced metal music or has it diminished the focus on the art of playing the instruments with skill instead of speed?

How about change the title of this thread to:   "Climbing is stupid and dangerous"

"Speed has nothing to do with Metal."

Speed guitar playing is cool sort of. As long as there are no vocals. Check out Marty Friedman or John Pettrucci (Lead Guitar for Dream Theater).

Interesting. Tangent, but why no vocals?

The Metal death voice sound, me no like. I like the music but not the so-called singers.

So speed metal is attractive to you as long as it fits your preferences?

That would be an impressive feat of engineering to make an autobelay that was able to take up the weight of 3000' of slack but still give the feel of a proper top rope belay. Not that I'm saying we should.

But yeah, somewhere between top roping and speed-climbing so recklessly it's more dangerous than controlled soloing, there's got to be a sweet spot. For what it's worth, I saw Tommy Caldwell give a really good talk at UCSB a few days before his 2:15 speed run. A lot of audience questions revolved around his speed climbing efforts and how he gauged the risk as a husband and dad. One thing that stood out was he stays away from snow, now that we've lost a lot of the greats to alpine accidents (Kyle Dempset, Hayden & Inga, etc.). He said their level of risk was always within what he deemed safe and he would have let Alex know if he ever didn't feel good about it.

So maybe speed climbing is dangerous and stupid unless you've got Honnold rope-gunning the really bad parts. I think they definitely made the right move quitting while they're ahead with the sub-2 hour ascent.

What does death metal have to do with anything ?  I thought this thread was about speed metal.

Playing with speed *is* a skill. Not the only skill, but one of them. It advances the genre by pushing the boundaries of how fast it is possible to play. Artists can then take these new skills and apply them to other works, whether speed is the main focus of that piece or not.

sometimes i want some heavy, technical riffs to chew on and rock out. other times I just wanna see how many beats per second on the kickdrum they can possibly jam into my ears while still resembling something akin to music.

more or less my thoughts on climbing as well. except no one dies from speed metal. well except maybe the victims of the pits. and the poor guitars...

I just randomly googled a video so I am not saying I agree with their top 10 riffs but hey it fits what you wanted good enough.
