Stolen Gear at Red Rocks!!

Hey all,

I had my gear stolen today! We were parked at .5 miles past the end of the scenic loop at the trailhead for Oak Creek Canyon and went hiking to just check out the approach to Solar Slab. When we got back our car was broken into by tampering with the lock. They stole all my climbing gear and my friend's camera gear. If you see any gear for sale around the area that looks fishy please contact me. Everyone stay safe and hide your valuables!

Gear is as follows.

My rack consisted of BD X4s from #0.1-0.5 and C4s to #6 there were also 12 draws, extended draws, Petzl Meteor Helmet, and a lot more stuff. Including 4 PBR's! It was all in a Black Northface Duffel.

My friend's camera gear consisted of a Nikon 135mm F/2 DC, Nikon 50 mm F/1.8 G, Rokinon 14mm F/2.8, Pelican 1400 Case [Orange], Beats Headphones [Black], his Galaxy S8 and more.

Love All,

Brian + Andrew

Sorry to hear that. Did you call around to local shops?  And maybe summerlin or Vegas have used sport equipment stores people bring stuff into. Good luck.  Hope it gets resolved. And yes, home owners or renters ins. is a good idea.

Sorry to hear this Can you explain the lock part more?  What time of day was this?  I would scour craigslist ads to see what turns up.

The lock is completely smashed. It looks like they took a screwdriver or chisel and a hammer and just smashed the lock until it opened. It was an older van and didn't have an alarm.

Brian, if you can be a little more specific like brand of draws/biners, belay device/color shoes, harness I’ll keep an eye out when I’m there. I browsed LA and Vegas sites briefly. Nothing so far.

In addition to CL, I recommend downloading the popular selling apps like 'offer up' and 'letgo.' I have seen some climbing gear on those apps that, upon first sight, looked like it was not from a legit seller. If you find the theif, let me know... I know a guy in LV who knows a guy that's meeting another guy to do a thing...

That's really shitty. This seems to be getting more frequent at Red Rocks?

One way to dissuade this type of behavior is for climbers not to buy used gear unless you know where it came from. If there's no market, there's not motivation.

Sorry about the loss.  Pisser when these things start happening.  Wait until they find out how little they'll get for a film camera.

Hopefully, no wallet was in the car...but if by chance there was one and it was still there check ALL credit cards, sometimes they just take one card so you don't notice and have more time to run up the bills.

Huge bummer.  Was all of this left in plain sight? Common error out here, even by Vegas residents, is to leave valuables in plain sight.  Vegas can be a sunny place for shady people...

Did you end up finding out who took it? Were you able to track him down at all?

The Link didn’t work.  Puck locks are the go to for trades workers. Available for $30-$40 at Home Depot. Secure the windows easily with one cross bar.

I'll fix the link, a puck lock is what I was trying to show. I don't have anything on my back windows (just dark tint and reflectix) but cross bars don't really work for the front roll down windows anyways. Most of the vans that have cross bars on the back probably have the security divider/cage between the cargo and passenger area. I wouldn't mind a built out wall with the divider for my next van, it'd be nice for security but also retaining heat and sealing out cold air from the front windows.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
