Logged onto the forum and a pop up covered the screen about disabling my ad blocker.  Wont go away and I won't turn off my ad blocker so I guess I'm out of luck using it.  Last time I turned off ad blocker my whole computer went to crap.  I know it takes money to run these sites but ................................

I use UBlock Origin and haven't had any problems. I wonder if you have spyware on your computer?

There are lots of other business models besides letting people shove crap in your users' face.

For one, REI makes money of selling gear, and can make money off MountainProject simply by the fact that it increases the number of people who buy their gear. There are other options if that's not enough money.

It's certainly possible - I am a babe in the woods on everything technology.   But this is the only site it shows up on.  I have pop ups appear on many other sites asking me to turn off ad blocker but a simple "no thanks" etc closes them.  Nothing I have done will close this pop up.

Ad blockers can be disabled for specific sites. For what it's worth, I don't recall seeing ads on RCTM; I just clicked on a few random threads there and didn't see any.

Well yes.  I bought the book - I bought the hangboard - I buy Tenaya shoes.  I guess I do expect to be able to use the forum that the book tells me to go to.  I've been on this forum for a long time now - this is something new.

Just went to the forum and clicked around - the pop up is only appearing on one thread (out of the ones I clicked ) the "Shoe Sizing" one.  Even Weirder !

It only appears when you scroll, and only shows once per session.

There is a link to dismiss it, but it's almost invisible.

Like Austin above pointed out, the pop up can be dismissed, they just make it very hard to see. And by "they", I mean Proboards, which is where the Rock Prodigy forum is hosted on.

I still can't see it even after you all pointed it out to me - but I can find it with just a couple clicks now - Thank You all.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
