Recommend Ortho for shoulder in Boulder?
|
So I f-ed up my shoulder pretty hard in a bike crash today, X-ray in the ER ruled out a fracture, but I need to follow up with an ortho and an MRI. It's my first shoulder injury but I know they can be complicated recovery-wise. Anyone have experience with a good Ortho dr. in Boulder? Someone familiar with climbing and great with shoulders? Possibly willing to travel a bit for a fantastic doc, but prefer Boulder as I won't be driving or biking anytime soon. Thanks!! |

I have a friend who swears by Lorena at http://www.orthomotion.net/ |

Dr. Schneider or Dr. Foulk at Panorama orthopedics in Westminster. I worked for both of them and was impressed. Their patients seemed to love them. Dr. Schneider only does shoulder and elbows, so very specific. Get an early appointment or just after lunch to avoid waiting too long. |

Your MRI needs to get ordered by an ortho, but you can take the results anywhere. My best advice is to go see 'first available' to get the MRI's ordered and taken, and shop for a doc meanwhile. |

climbing friend, off of the topics, but is anyone knowing whether it is proper and good to utilize the "sleeper" stretch in the event your massive, steel cable like sculpted supraspinatus it is painfully impinged upon your acromion process? I would be reading it creates more space in subacromial space for tendons to crushing pulling killing without impingement, yet it seems quite strange that the stretch it is an internal rotation of your beloved humerous, which is the opposite of the manly shoulder saving posture we would all hope to adopt. Perhaps my muscles are simply too massive and tendons too strong? I thank on you, Aleks Z. |

See Hackett in Vail. It’s worth the trip. Call his office, find out what kind of MRI you need (eg 3 Tesla or arthrogram) then call around for the best price. Once you have a diagnosis, you can find a good PT closer to Boulder and/or get surgery if needed. PS sorry to hear you got hurt. Heal up quick. And stay away from those dangerous sports :-) |

You can see Dr. Hackett in Frisco also. Check with the Steadman Clinic in Vail, but he does do consults in Frisco. Great doc!!!! |

Dr. Michael Repine at BMC repaired my torn rotator cuffs (both shoulders, different times). I'm very happy with the care I received and the results. |

Here’s a second for Dr. Schneider at Panorama. He’s excellent and understands climbing. Multiple offices so you can sometimes get seen sooner at one location then have subsequent visits at the one closest to you. One thing I love about him is he’s direct, gives you all your options, and is a surgeon who doesn’t necessarily jump to surgery as the first choice. He reconstructed my elbow a few years ago and I’ve seen him twice for shoulder issues over the years. We are lucky in the Front Range - we have lots of great ortho docs who understand and work with athletes. If you don’t feel 100% certain with the consult or it’s not a good fit - get a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion. Many good choices here. Nick’s recommendation for PT seems solid - I have 2 friends who have been very happy with her (I believe she is an OT, not PT). Really sorry you got hurt - glad it’s not fractured (although sometimes that’s almost easier than soft tissue injuries). Good luck and heal fast!! |

Thank you for the recommendations everyone! (and keep them coming if you have more) I'll starting looking into these first thing. Learn from my misfortune, climbers of MP - when your partner bails on a sunny day, don't do something reckless like hop on your bike to ride in to work; just play it safe and free solo something. |

I'll second that Dr. Weider is great, and the Boulder ortho office on pearl and foothills was nice as well, I rarely waited. When you eventually have to do PT check out North Boulder PT on valmont and foothills and see Libby. She is awesome and got my shoulder back to doing everything I wanted to. |
