Well, less encouraging news just now from REI. In my order history, I'm seeing both a shipping date and "this item is on backorder" messaging, so I called REI to get more information. I relayed everything to the CSR and she put me on hold while she talked with the product team. Seems like the fact that some of us got orders through might've been a glitch. Bummer. |

What an emotional roller coaster. |

Same for me - order cancelled. Not a very auspicious new product intro. |

Same here, REI order cancelled. Guess I'll just have to drink $160 worth of beer instead. |

I ordered two of them, so that's $320 in beer I now get to drink |

Had a chat with REI online support: re: my preorder being canceled:

Heheheheheh 'hickups'. |

What will come out first - the Revo or a Vergo that isn't recalled? :) It's a real horse race. Could be a nail-biter! |

Not sure what's worse, vaporware or recallware |

aikibujin wrote: they have done trial runs in various European gyms so to say no one would be false, throwing $300 at something that to what many see as the holy grail of devices isn't really unreasonable, it's a pulley, a belay device, a rope soloing device and who else knows what other uses it might have, if I had $300 to throw at this i sure as hell would. |

that guy named seb wrote: I'm interested in the Revo too, I just wanted to see some real world reviews before I go throw money at it. So what do the good people in the various European gyms think of it? Is it really the holy grail of belay devices that can also make excellent coffee? I do love a good coffee. |

aikibujin wrote: Well clearly they thought the V slots needed some work ;), I think people aren't super psyched about it as a belay device but for everything else it can do. |

I'm a gear whore, and I'm tunashamed of it. I try stuff all the time that has little to no reviews. I like testing stuff, have a decently paying 3-day-a-week job, few other interests, no kids, and I live so cheaply otherwise that I can afford it. Besides, someone has to be first. In the past year, I've used all sorts of gear before it was available in the US Right now I have 8 Grivel Carryabiners on the way from the UK: 4 for my harness and 4 for my wife: I don't like the plastic Petzl Caritools, and the DMM Vault is overpriced. Next on the list is the Scarpa Ribelle Tech |

Brian Abram wrote: Post up reviews when you use both. That ribelle tech looks like a good replacement for the rebel pros I wore holes through the sole on. I'm interested to see if that grivel biner stays oriented on the harness well or tries to rotate. It doesn't seem to have a wider flat section on the back of the spine. I tried using camp photons with my dead bird harness and rubber bands last year, the biner just spun to the side when I tried to re-rack screws. |

Mark L wrote: Status Update: I just contacted REI customer service to find out why my order was cancelled. The guy told me it wasn't clear why my order was cancelled, but that next week they will be available for purchase online again. They are on backorder, but he told me the first shipments will go out on the 24th of September if I remember correctly. He also gave me a 20% off coupon code to use when I do place the order. I didn't even complain really, but he told me he was giving it to me for my troubles. I don't know how accurate the information that he gave me is; for all I know it may not ship until Christmas. The first time I placed the order I was told I would receive it by September 12th, so take this information with a grain of salt. He said the best thing I could do was to just check online everyday starting Monday to see if it is available for order. I contacted them through online chat, and he promptly emailed me the coupon code at the end of our chat session. If receiving it 3 weeks later ends up saving me $30 off of the retail price, I'll be pretty content. I'll follow up with and update in the future. |
