Headed to Albany in a couple weeks any chance of seeing information on this site? (I read that Christain tried) Sounds like MP overlords are holding out climbing community.  Using information (or lack there of) to manipulate the masses? I may not understand all the complex local factors that go into leaving an area off the internet but a reasonable response is expected.  I understand undocumented crags but this isn't one. I'm not angry but I'd love to go climb when I go visit.  I don't have a smartphone or I'd buy the app, if it comes out on paper Ill certainly buy one even if it's a shitty folding pamphlet.  Thanks to those who put the work in opening up climbing in the capitol district.

Someone from MP just contacted me today, so perhaps they are going to move things along. I'm not sure if it typically takes time to add an area or if they have just dropped the ball. I got a very quick response when I first contacted them, then crickets until today.

I've just skimmed this thread, the gunks app, and the website dedicated to thacher. Never been but it seems like there is a lot of potential for new routes. Anyone know if bolting is allowed these days or if my impression is false?

Here is the new TCC page on development: http://www.climbthacher.org/support/volunteers/development/

I thought Mtn Proj pages were user-entered.  Someone would need to take the photos, write/enter the pages for the climbs, and thus the info for an area is built up over time.

MP data is entered by the community - we don't control it the way some people have indicated above (there was some miscommunication with an admin).  Gunks App is traveling and has limited bandwidth, but since the ball is rolling, he graciously gave me some text and a couple photos so I could get it started.  I have built out the areas here:

I don't know the area!  If you do, please feel free to add routes, and please suggest text for the sub-areas.  I also might have slightly mislocated them on the map.

Choo Choo - 1 star instead of 3, this is because some heavy work needs to be done to improve the top of this route, I wouldn't take gumbies on this route as it is now.

Ah, man this is tough. This is an awesome crack that is super fun but the big block at the top is a little sketchy. The guidebook warns about it and you can finish the route without touching it although I can imagine someone will crank on it someday. We speculated about how/if it was attempted to be removed during route cleaning.

I wouldn't change the star rating though cause its one of the most aesthetic and fun lines we climbed. I saw the crack instantly through the trees and was super psyched it was bolted!

Thanks Mike, We just updated our website to reflect the revenue Gunks Apps does. ie. We also give 10% of Trapps/Nears Routes/Bouldering app price back to the Mohonk Preserve and 10% of Gov Stable back to FrOGS.

Christian

Just one more reason to love the Gunks App!!!

I guess I agree with you, I just got really bummed about the top, I had such fun on the lower part, and the surprise at the top just stuck out like a sore thumb. Maybe if the whole route was mediocre I wouldn't have noticed it, just a little psychological trick. or... maybe it was the giant mosquitos which are heavy at the Mossy Corner Section cause its wet there in summer, or that I put my gear in poison ivy! the good news is I haven't seen the ivy at the base of any other route anywhere there, just that spot below and right of Sugar Bombs.

Some friends and I climbed almost everything at the Mahican wall (except Blue Moon) and felt all the grades were accurate. Also climbed all the routes at Fossil Wall and thought the grades were good except for Life Crusher. Three of us climbed it and all agreed it was definitely harder than 11a, like at least 11c or d. The moves getting to the second bolt were very hard.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
