Book recommendation to kill time on 11-hr flight?

Anything by Ursula Le Guin...

The best novels I've read in the last five years were "Life After Life" and "A God in Ruins" by Kate Atkinson.

If you're a parent, Maria Semple's "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" is hilarious.

If you're brave, Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower" and "Parable of the Talents" are brilliant, terrifying, and hit far too close to home.

Dave, thanks for reminding me of Octavia Butler.  I forgot she wrote novels.  I've only read blood child and a few other short stories

-East of Eden is hands down the best book ever written.  All who question this are simply wrong.

-Anything else by Steinbeck is also worth a read.

-If you must read a climbing book make it The Dharma Bums.

Non-fiction: Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic (Sam Quinones), The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl (Timothy Egan, same author as the Big Burn), One Nation Under God (Kevin Kruse), Cadillac Desert (Mark Reisner)

General fiction: Geek Love (Katherine Dunn)

Sci-fi/Dystopian: The Scar (China Mieville), Silo Series (Hugh Howey), High Rise (JG Ballard)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
