Apples and oranges comparison. The mine hardly modifies the setting compared to a ba-gillion new cookie cutter houses, so it is a little unclear what your point is.

They should shut the mine. Then they should ban everything/everyone except for Mtbers/runners from being on the blue diamond hill, I know a few trail builders who'd love to connect the cowboy trails w/ the cottonwood and BBT/SW ridge trails ;) just need a key piece of land open to recreation

Take a look at the map below and try to imagine the impact of this on the whole area... disastrous!

BLM could have put this issue to rest, but they shitcanned the land swap deal because they didn't want the mine.

Apparently there was no room in their $1.2B budget to rehabilitate the land. This, from a bureau created to take care of land which was (supposedly) bought for a railroad.

Bump... come on people!

Does anyone have the county property map? The Vegas sprawl is definitely going west (with several mtbike trails now being consumed by fully irrigated golf courses). If the land is bought up all the way to the mine, or close to it, maybe there would be call for having a municipality buy it and make a park.

What happened last night was just the planning commissions recommendation to the Clark County Commission - the important vote will be theirs on December 7th I believe. Keep encouraging people to sign the petition and email the commissioners! saveredrock.com/

This kind of activism is so tenuous but crucial. Thanks for the heads up and follow up. It is so easy to get cynical about these things in our current political state.

Perhaps, but denying the zoning change (i.e. not allowing dense development) will make any development prospect less profitable (if at all) so it may not happen (at least for now).

Please stay informed and be ready for another e-mail campaign later this year. Putting pressure on elected officials - however corrupt some of them may be - can and does work!

Anyone know if IMBA is getting the word out on this too?

I'm not familiar enough with conservation methods in NV. What are the options for getting it set aside as a recreational park?
