Wanting to enter the world of trad at a super low cost. Decided to start my rack with passive pro only. I've been hearing that tricams are awesome on the granite down here. Suggestions for a single pitch passive trad rack for climbing in ga?

Just a side note. Currahee trad routes can be a little runout and sandbagged. Yonah routes are pretty true to the grade. Most of the routes at Yonah can be climbed on passive only if you are okay with the runout on mostly easy terrain. If you purchase cams for Yonah most of the route can be sewed up nicely with a #.75-#2. Not sure if I have ever used anything bigger than a #2

Single rack from .3-3 camalot will get you by on most routes at both of those places. Since you are new to trad, I wouldn't recommend getting anything smaller than a .3 yet until your gear placements are optimized. A set of nuts and tri-cams are inexpensive as well, and can go a long way with supplementing your rack. The Dihedral at Yonah takes a good .3 if I remember correctly. If you get up the nerve, Trad and True at Currahee would take an extra #2. Both of those places are great areas to learn. Good luck and have fun with it!

I know a guy who lives in his car who figured out how to pay for a trad rack. This is life saving equipment. Just my 2 cents, don't cheap out on protective gear. Yes I know they only climbed on passive gear in the past. Within the last month both my partner and myself have taken serious whippers on a .5 cam. Worth every penny we spent on them. Both whippers were unexpected, one humidity on the slab the other loose/broken rock.

Local tradition at Currahee also dictates you bring a full palette of spray paint and a few old appliances to heave off the top. Make sure to let the world know that you, (Travis, Cody, Dwanye, or Colt) "Luv Brylee 4-ever," or at least tell all the Mexicans to go home. Probably best to leave your shirt at home too, unless it's RealTree or Under Armour.
