Any reason to purchase one over the other? Slowly accumulating aid gear and that along with a swivel and fifi are next on the list.

There's a good review by Chris Mac on outdoor gear lab. I have used the old pro traxion and the Mirco and I honestly don't know why anyone would pick the pro above the micro or the mini. The Pro and the micro have the same weight limits if I'm not mistaken. I currently have the mini and wish I had the Micro because you can use it as solo top rope devices which would be nice. The mini and the pro can't be used for that. Or at least I haven't figured out how to use them like that.
P.S. Petzl just released the new Pro traxion and it looks pretty sweet, if you end up getting it, y'all have to share your experience!

Btw I'm digging the yonah pic! One of my favorite places to spent a weekend, haven't been up there in while though.

Seems like there's less wasted space, which in turn would cut down on the bulkyness that the old one had.

I'm guessing you know this, but the big difference is the fact that you can load/unload the mini while leaving it attached to the anchor. For something as vital as a haul device, the extra drop protection might be worth the extra weight.

The Pro Traxion is going to be more efficient due to a larger sheave. How much? About 95% for Pro Traxion and 90% for the Micro (those values are probably overestimated by 1-2%). The difference will be amplified if you use a stiff, thick static rope. If you're using a skinnier, more flexible haul rope, you'll never notice the difference for hauling. I would use the Micro traxion and save the weight.

The Mini Traxion is commonly used for toprope soloing. There is a Supertopo thread, with photos, on the setup.

While I don't have dozens of walls under my belt, I do have a few and have used each device on at least 5 walls. In terms of the practical difference in hauling, I really didn't notice anything. The Micro Trax is considerably smaller and was more than adequate for 2 people for 5 days food/water on El Cap. The pro trax is less finnicky, but not worth the extra bulk and weight if you're only spending a few days on the wall.

I've hauled with both and there is no comparison. The protraxion is way more efficient. For light loads the minitraxion is ok, but for extended bigwall stays there is no question the pro is better.

I use a Mini Traxon for toprope soloing. You have to file off the bump that allows it to lock open. You don't want it accidently locking open. That is what the photo on Supertopo shows.

Thank you, I thought I was going crazy. OP is asking about the MICROtraxion vs. protraxion, NOT the minitraxion, which is no longer being made.

According to Chris McNamara, the micro is better in every way than the old mini, and is his preferred hauling pulley for anything except enormous loads. (full review here: outdoorgearlab.com/Hauling-…)

nevermind I was referring to the mini. Never used the micro. Sorry about that.

Anyone have experience hauling El Cap bags with the Micro?

Yes but as part of a 2:1 whenever I tried to switch over to 1:1 in the upper pitches with the micro I couldn't but then I'm a flyweight 118lb weakling trying to haul a solo kit soooo ymmv

No problem hauling 1:1 for most of the Salathe on the micro. Run of the mill ascent, I'm 180 lbs, wasn't even worth the effort of setting up the 2:1 once we were past ~hollow flake.

180 pounder here too, use a micro only. Can haul my el cap bag 1:1 off the ground. My 135 pound partner needed 2:1 at first
