Going to Nicaragua for a month- tips or partners available? |

I recommend going surfing! Check out San Juan Del Sur.....Didn't really see much inspiring rock there. |

That's the main reason I'm going.... ;). But not climbing for a month will be a sad story! |

There is some climbing in Somoto canyon in the North. I have never been and I believe you will need a guide to get there but it exists! |

Playa Colorado is rad and there's a little chossy bouldering along much of the coast around there. |

Awesome thank you :) :) |

I've done the canyoning in Somoto Canyon, but not the rock climbing. I see that Henry Soriano has a new website and that it now lists rock climbing as an activity that is offered. |

Awesome, thanks heaps for the tip!- I'll have to research the area! |

If you ever make it back down again, the ROCA NICA climbing coalition just put in some bolted routes in Matagalpa and Flor de Pochote! mountainproject.com/area/11… |

The Esteli area is well worth visiting for a few days. My family just spent a couple of days at Somoto with Henry’s company (Somoto Canyon Tours) and very much enjoyed it. One morning we went rock climbing, which consisted of one top-roped route. (Honestly, that was enough for my kids, ages 8 to 10). The guides were professional and the equipment was mostly new. The rock is basalt and has a lot of pockets and cracks, although there was one big flake I was worried would pull off if I laid back too much. There were a few small bees, but the weather was pleasant and the view fantastic. It’s a bit of a hike down and back, but the price was right: $20/person. From what I understand, there’s not a lot of climbing allowed in the canyon due to concerns of rock fall. |
