Nick Wilder wrote:Hi Sarah, I'll clarify what you've seen: Adventure Projects is the company I started that owns Mountain Project, and also MTB Project, Hiking Project, Trail Run Project, Powder Project, and Adventure Projects (and the blog you're showing). A co-worker and I created the FB post you saw with material from our sites (including your photo apparently) to promote that blog post on Adventure Projects.

Nick,

So I'm just curious, why not include a credit line underneath the photos? You may think I am being a little picky, but giving credit where credit is due is certainly the right thing to do. For e.g., when I posted a route here on MP and I modified someone else's MP photo to do so, I gave them credit (see the link below):

mountainproject.com/v/10746…

I understand the MP "small print" that states that uploading a photo allows MP to use the photos as the owner's see fit, but one would think common courtesy dictates that you at least you give a proper citation. To be clear, I would be fine with you using one of my photos (perhaps even flattered), but I also think that if I saw one of my photos, I would feel a little bummed if you didn't cite where the shot came from. I know for myself, I really like to know who is responsible for the photos that I see posted online. Just a thought.

Why do people "want credit" for their photos? Curious...

I like when credit is given just so I can look up more work by the person. Presuming it's a cool photo.

People want credit ft their photos because we're living in a generation where everyone needs to have their 15 minutes of fame.

For sure this is one reason.

^^^ At least for me -- and I can only assume many other folks -- this has zero to do with it. To the contrary, there are many legitimate reasons why citing someone else's work is the right thing to do, whether the item in question is a photo, a piece of written work, or even a set of ideas (yes, original ideas are most certainly cited in many professional settings and failing to do so is defined as a form of plagiarism). If you don't know the difference between acknowledging someone else's efforts and ideas versus "wanting 15 minutes of fame", then I don't know what to tell you.

Add one to citing people's photos.

Credits added to this post (related: it was already the case that photos click through to the original photo page where credit is also shown). We'll make sure we do this on future posts.

corporate climbing friend,

I buy this holiday passing a mammut neon gear 45 pack with gift card. I am fooled by the REI website and believe it is one of only options with side-loading access, so I buy. I now would like credit for BD creek 50 pack, or this is not possible, a refund because the mammut pack is oh so small, yes.

Would this be possible?

Also you must be carrying greater selection of climbing gear in your stores yes, not only 4 models of shoes and 1 line of cams and stoppers, yes. And you please conduct scientific research on what type of hangboard program delivers the most crushing grip strength over time, yes.

Given the REI return policy, it sounds like your return would be allowed. But, while this site is owned by REI, I've not heard of anyone from the company monitoring this forum for returns/support issues. You'd have better luck checking out the REI return policy and calling REI or using the live chat feature.

corporate climbing friend,

may I emblazon the letter "REI" utilizing tattoo ink on my meaty, veiny, neck meat of considerable size for a lifetime supply of free shoe, rope and karabiner?

Please be doing the needful to be certain of your future financial.
Only myself, being, would view lacking MP if you were not here.
On my next trip to the Bouldering, I would like to be offering you a pint of the Maharaja IPA at the ABC being.

Aleks, you must buy the dried salmon from REI. Consume half, for meaty veins, then return complaining of bitter taste. That is what us Finns do.

climbing friend,

I see you think yourself quite clever! I too enjoy this idea most bold, but you tread the dangerous water and may ruin return policy for all!

Aleks,

Have you considered a career as an ESL teacher? You could help a lot of people.
