I have to confess that I really don't care if people smoke pot, climbing or not, as long as they aren't bothering anyone. I started this forum just to see what people would say on the subject.

Interesting Thread! I think many points were valid. Basically, if you are an experienced, knowledgeable climber, these are freedoms you may choose.

Coffee, red bull, tobacco, beer; et al, Rx's, they all affect us in some way...

Solid point made on many famous climbers and having known marijuana and LSD use. Everyone has different comfort zones.

These guys lived through all the substances they were ingesting and climbing R/X routes. Just sayin.

Adderrall one of the most prescribed drugs in the US. I would be way more concerned about that. Its LEGAL meth enough said. A little bit of weed isn't a problem. I would be more worried about someone who is popping pills under a doctors care. Also if it doesn't directly affect you then mind your own business.

Adderall isn't legal meth - Desoxyn is. Doctors prescribe marijuana, too, you know.

I'm much more worried about people drinking EtOH at the crag.

Given the choice, I would much rather be around/ride in a car with/climb with someone who is using MJ vs. EtOH.
Actually, I would prefer to do those things with someone who isn't under the influence of any drug, but I acknowledge that pot smokers are often able to perform well at athletic/motor activities. Plus they won't throw up on you or try to start a fight....

I like people who point out that it's not legal at a federal level. I hate to break it to you, but it's now legal recreationally or medicinally in half the U.S. States.if the Feds really cared people wouldn't be paying taxes on it. If you get caught by a cop/trooper/ranger in a forest, national park or ski area, you shouldn't be smoking in the first place.

Lots of people "live through" driving drunk as well but that doesn't make it a good thing to do. Just sayin...

Adderall is an amphetamine. It's not what you call 'Meth' but it isn't a terrible substitute.
If taken in sufficient quantity to be recreational/consciousness altering, it would be a bad idea. But I'd be more worried about the tweaker than the tweak.

Hell yeah, i <3 those new plastic 40 bottles. Adderall IS amphetamine. Atoms matter. Precisely, it's a combination of mixed salts with varying half lives which produces the long-acting effect.

I think the average meth addict will disagree with you about it being a substitute, but who knows.
