I have a woodie in my attic. It's flat against the rafters and takes up one third of one side of the attic. I am going to increase its size this winter. The question is do I expand sideways along the current wall and just have a large traversing wall or go up and over the other side making an arch? Looking to see what others have found. I'm not much of a carpenter and am mostly a moderate trad climber.
Your attic rafters are at what angle? If it's 45, I would just build it as a terervse, then as you get the funds connect in a roof and then the other side so you have a big cave. To change the angles of different areas just make volumes. Don't get fancy. Keep it simple.
I spent the summer far from a gym and built a 12' long by 8' high woodie. I would just traverse back and forth for about 20 min at a time. Worked wonders for my technique. not sure if this would work on an overhanging wall, though it might. It would be a different exercise.
