OUTRAGED: Graffiti at the Gunks

Words can't describe how angry I was to walk into the Trapps yesterday to see three separate pieces of graffiti on the rocks. I just can't understand how someone can enter a pristine nature preserve and think it's ok to do this crap. #SoAngry

Tragic ... hopefully it can be cleaned off. Responsible people must be vigilant. Here's one in Joshua Tree that I ran across and reported to the park officials.

Any area with an urban interface is going to see this kind of stuff.

Try some paint stripper or Goof Off to remove the graffiti.

And people wonder why outdoor types are so against urbanization.

Garrett, New Paltz is HARDLY an urban interface. It's at least a 15 minute drive plus a $17 entrance fee.

There is a petraglyph of footprints (the Indian Footprints) near my house that someone 50 yrs ago carved deeper, thinking they were improving them. There are handprints above them as well that are original. Two years ago some mouth breather spray painted a box around them to make them easier to spot. The florescent orange paint goes right across the hands.

I am as far from an urban environment as can be. There are ignorant assholes everywhere.

Also the cave at Pitchoff Chimney Cliff in the Daks was spray painted in the '70's, I think. Basically permanent. Fuckers.

I was going to say it was prolly Mexicans but they wouldn't put stuff like that--they would just write their names.

Prolly.. You mean probably? You know you could lose your TV cooking show or get booted off the Philly eagles for those remarks.

The graffiti is certainly shitty... but Mohonk = "pristine nature preserve"? Please.

Mohonk will take care of it, I wouldn't worry. Same thing happened up at Cathedral last year (or was it '11?) a few times. AAC organized a cleanup, life goes on.

All that time in the sun turn you from Magic Ed to Racist Ed? I know you live in a small, entitled world now, but taggers come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

If you're going to be ignorant, at least be funny.

Damnit Locker, you said you were buying all that paint to huff it!?

Too, too sad, Alex TC. You can take the tagger out of the city, but what makes you think you can take the behaviors they acquired in their environment out of them or impart an appreciation for your "prestine" preserve without a lot of reprogramming and/or education? There has been an alarming increase in this behavior at Red Rocks, NV, Joshua Tree, CA, Hueco Tanks, TX, etc. How about getting a legislator to author a bill to reinstitute the thumb guillotine or chopping off of the limb that violated your "prestine" preserve?

Without a thumb how do you jerk off? ! That is cruel and unusual and outlawed by the Geneva convention.

Maybe Ivan Green can remove the graffiti with his chisel??

they catch the guy, climbers get to string him up by his heels, hanging off of High Exposure before the Federales' get their hands on him. Then life in prison or the death penalty at least.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
