HI MPers,

Could anyone give advice for a foreigner, where to go climbing in the U.S.? I'm all alone ,and I'm gonna finish my job in Maine on the 11 of August. My plane flies home from new york on the 31 of august so probably I cant hit the west coast.I'm planning to make a trip somewhere I can surely find partners(big places, maybe red river gorge).Any idea where to go?

Plz help me to have a good climbing summer in the US. :)

yes those would be the typical, but he clearly said no time for the west coast, he has a total of 18 days.....
Stay on the east coast. maybe start at the Gunks, then head to the New and then the Red. Any further than that will seriously cut into your climbing time.

Since you're in the Northeast with limited time, think about hitting up North Conway and Rumney in New Hampshire and the Gunks in New York.

I was thinking about sportclimbing and maybe bouldering.
I'm searching for a place where i can easily find partners, doesnt matter, in campings or at the crag.I dont know, Rumney is big enough for that?
After that, it might be good to see the red,or new river gorge.
Do you know some popular boulder area in the northeast? If had time i would also do some bouldering.

You definately want to go to the Red in Kentucky. Best comfy temps are after summer and into the fall. Tons of other foreign climbers stay there for months. Camradarie and fun camping and living cheap at Miguels. Meet climbers there, or down at Muir Valley parking lot every day. No camping limit; stay as long as you want, maybe end up getting a part time job there too once school starts for others. Lots of sport routes to do. Great Pizza at Miguels. Scenic like you wouldn't believe. Many stay until late November.

No other offerings? RRG must be the place for you to go then. It can't be beat for that time of year. Enjoy the Red.

Yeah rrg seems the best option, probably that's what I'm gonna do.
I think I'll rent a car in Lexington because as I read, there is no option to get there by public transport.

The New is pretty awesome too. The scene is a bit diminished now as Roger's campground is closed, so there won't be a local hub like Miguel's to meet partners and hang out.

I have never climbed at RRG but I can't really imagine a climbing area better than NRG. More routes than you could do in a lifetime, classics at every grade on gear or bolts. Beautiful scenery and Fayetteville is a cool little town with a good gear shop and good food.

If you are in Maine, weekends you should be hitting Precipice and the sea cliffs now. I would make stops at Rumney, the Gunks, NRG and RRG.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
