Denver: Livin' Lavish

I'm recently employed and living in Denver. Most of my work will be in the Boulder area, but I'm not too sure I want to live IN Boulder... at the same time, I want to be able to at least boulder around a bit after work, like every day, or I get homicidal. I am done by 4, so that will leave plenty of time in the evening during the summer. Im assuming the traffic in from the outlying areas can be heinous, so it would be good to be commuting in the opposite direction, if at all possible.

Thoughts/suggestions would be super rad!

What exactly is your question? Where should you live? Boulder after work? If you're already in Boulder for work, climbing should not be a problem, Sanitas, Flagstaff, Eldo, BC. Wait until after 7 to drive back to Denver though, unless you like going 20 in a 65.

I'm a fan of living in Erie/Lafayette, but Lyons or Nederland are cool if you can deal with hippies and possibly loosing your home in a fire this summer.

Besides all the Boulder haters around, I actually really like living in Boulder. Sure there's alot of snobs, idiots etc, but for the most part its not that bad. There's a large population of just normal folks who like living close to the mountains and love the city.

I like you'd find that living in Boulder would be a lot more fun than lafayette or broofield. Plus being able to bike everywhere is a awesome plus.

Yeah, I grew up in Boulder, and would honestly prefer to live there over anywhere else, it's just the price is right for sprawling suburban luxury just a few minutes east. If you have money or don't mind cozier/dirtier accommodations why not just live right in the heart of it? I don't understand the haters either, I think they just like to whine.

They hate because the wish they lived in Boulder! If you live here and do everyday things here you realize there really aren't too many snobs ect. It is expensive but in my opinion you get what you pay for.

Denver is pretty cool too, but further from climbing. I would avoid the burbs (I grew up there), nothing but churches and liqueur stores.

If you're talking about climbing in the evenings, unfortunately, it's the other way around. Traffic heads out of the metropolitan area toward the front range. There are some exceptions to that (i.e. traffic heads out of Boulder toward Louisville, Broomfield, etc.). But, for the most part, if you're heading toward the front range in the late afternoons/evenings, you're going to be wading through traffic.

One thing you'll notice going back and forth, once you hit that 17.5 mile mark from Boulder's center, you get bitchslapped in the face. I mean really hard every time. I asked one of friends what the hell is that; oh, that's just reality

I heard that Colorado bouldering really sucks. You have to chip ice off of every boulder first... ICYC....

I have lived in many a place. To me, Boulder is at the top of the list if not the top. Living in the following areas outside of Boulder is not suggested - Erie (eh, culdesac blah), Superior/Westminster/Broomfield - sprawl and not a real town, and Arvada... more sprawl. Golden, Louisville, and Longmont to me are all underrated and should definitely be considered.

To me, I want to do things in Boulder so it just made sense to live here. I was just pretending to enjoy saving some money living outside of Boulder by living in Broomfield and Erie, but I wasn't enjoying it and only truly enjoyed my time IN Boulder. I moved here a year ago and won't move away for a long time. Sure, there can be snobs and Audi driving maniacs, but you'll find that anywhere. The mountains, trails, and rocks make up for all that silliness.

It would be nice to live somewhere between Boulder and Golden any suggestions? Not close to city and not expensive and safe areas only please. Thank you.

Uh...hmmm...Well there's Eldorado Springs. Not sure if you've been in between Boulder and Golden but it's cattle land.

Unless you mean going east. Then you have the arvada area etc, but you're not really "in between", unless someone knows of something different. It's pretty spaced out in that area.

Golden is rad, but 45-1 hour commute from Boulder at rush hour, so if that's where you work, it sucks.

As for Boulder VS. Burbs, it's all personal preference. I was paying the same rent for a filthy studio with a shared bathroom downtown as I now do for half of an entire three story house fifteen minutes away. I don't drink or go out much, so being near Pearl St. doesn't matter to me. I live by a lake and endless miles of dirt and paved bike paths, ~12 minute drive to the Spot or BRC, 3 minutes to a world class rec center, etc.

Coal Creek Canyon is the only place in between. A house lower down in there would be awesome. I have had friends who lived farther up, and quickly came to bemoan the drive, especially when there is any inclement weather.

Myself and Mr. Stone may be interested actually we are really low key and never around cos we r climbing and riding bikes all the time.
