I was wondering what formula/algorithm MP uses to generate its list of 50 classics for each area. Searched through the archives but couldn't find any discussion on this. Anyone with beta on this?

Top secret MP sauce!

It's actually quite complicated and generated automatically, but we've been pretty happy with it when we compare the lists to areas we know personally.

I see the Classics listed for each area, but it would be interesting to see the algorithm run on the entire database to see the most classic routes in the world according to MP.

A worthy list, though sadly I've only done one of them. Hoping to do something about that this summer.

Wow... no southeast love at all. Guess I need to head west...

Someone left Lord of the Thais off the list. Blasphemy.

Sam - sadly our algorithm doesn't speak Thai.

A lot of accessible climbs there, and then Midnight Lightening thrown in for kicks- ouch!

The SE doesn't get the same type of crowding. The results will be skewed because of it.

All CA and NV, what about AZ!?

Woohoo, I've done 20 of them. I'll probably do another 10 more this summer. Some of those harder ones are going to take a while. Very Colorado-centric which I guess makes sense given the sites origins. Wonder which of these are in the Classics of NA, I know a couple are like The Nose and I think Upper Exum is on there.

The list definitely has a CO spin to it.

Ruper, Yellow Spur, Rosy Crucifiction, Rewritten, Naked Edge are all geographically very close to one another (on the same rock formation).

Proud to have 8 on that list ticked off, and a bunch on my todos.

I cannot believe there aren't more Gunks routes on there, and nothing from Cathedral Ledge (The Prow!?). This is an amazing list tho.

Can we have a similar list of just SPORT routes please?

How many single pitch routes are on there....?

Is my count correct? 14 from CO? Only 10 from CA and less from the other states?

That proves it. Colorado has the best climbing. We win. Ha!

Nice! I've done 10 on that list, yay, plus the first 4 pitches of Epi. which brings my score up to 10 1/2 MP classics done, I know, an incomplete Epi doesn't count, but it should, damnit, that chimney pained me.

Popularity counts.

What about bouldering? Is there any possibility you could break it down by bouldering or sport? Awesome list by the way and thanks for compiling it with that secret sauce.
