We just had a tiny earthquake in the northeast, but it was the first earthquake I ever felt. So, anyone ever been climbing and felt an earthquake? Any good stories?

I was climbing during the earthquake a few hours ago. I didn't feel anything, but there was some random rockfall at one point which is common in the area.

I was on the cliff at the Gunks and felt nothing. One of my colleagues down in Fishkill, NY left a message on my phone asking if I was ok. He said our office was evacuated as a precaution. No damage as far as I know. Just enough wiggle to make folks wonder "what the heck?"

I was actually leading a climb. Weather was great and things were going pretty well. I was about 40 feet up and had another 30 to go to the anchors. I placed a # 1 about 8 feet ago. I was looking for another spot to place some gear since i was entering the crux sequence. Just when I reached for my yellow mastercam i felt off balance. I thought i was having a vertigo of some sort. It started to feel hard to hang on and all i thought about was my last piece. I looked down and noticed my rope swaying a bit. I hurried to place the yellow mastercam but I fumbled it started to slip off the hold. This story is a complete fabrication, but it was what i wanted to hear from someone!!!!!!!

This is a true story. Back in the 80's (before Friends)Tom Cosgriff and I were doing a 5.10 hand and fist crack climb called Outer Limits on the Cookie Cliff in the Yosemite Valley. I was in the process of leading the first pitch. I was over half way up with my hands and feet in the crack with a piece of protection about 10 feet below me when the entire cliff started moving, swaying, rocking and rolling! We heard rocks falling in the distance. Miraculously the hexes that I had placed below me remained in place. The whole experience felt a little odd but I really wasn't all that freaked, so I finished leading the pitch. Tom and I were a bit concerned by the rock fall and decided not finish the climb so I rappelled from the top of the first pitch. When we got back to camp-4 we found out that the trimmer/quake had caused some large rocks fall and some hikers were hit on the Mist Trail on Half Dome.
