Well this thread has taken on a mind of its own hasn't it? Can't say I read everything, but thanks OP for the heads up. Now BRENT how about your retract your broad statement that I originally called you out on? Again, pretty lame to say stoners leave trash and cigarette butts behind, don't you think? I could go through all the reasons why you're statement is incorrect but I'll assume that you are smart enough to figure them out for yourself. What do you say - be a man, loose some face and admit you were wrong?

nippleit wrote: "the study that shows that weed is less harmful than liquor is BS." Tony B. Not the only study, the only one you are familiar with. Wow, you're thick. The study I cited, which is one of many with which I am familiar, shows that weed is less harmful. You are the one who said it was BS, I just pointed out that you are the one that said it, so you A) aren't reading clearly, B) are arguing with yourself and C) presuming what kind of studies I've studied... which are extensive, BTW. I've only cited one for you, but that's one more than you've cited. Regardless, in all cases, you've got it wrong again. As for me oppressing you with me saying to keep something on the DL? Well, whatever, that's your philosophy. Would I be oppressing you if I asked you not to drive on it instead of suggesting that you simply not aggravate other campers/climbers with it and get the cops called? So are you in the MPP? CCJRC? LP? ACLU? DO you have conversations with your elected officials? If not, other than smoking weed, what active role are you taking in fixing this great injustice that active people like me are foisting upon you?

While I didn't actually have a single conversation that night about the legalization of marijuana, I did chat up a girl who was rather vocal about being upset at the director in the film she was doing who wanted her to do anal on a granite counter-top.

I don't have a problem with stoners per say, but some of the comments I have read here are troubling. Off the top of my head: 1) "Climbing and getting high simply go together." 2) "I would give a much more competent belay while wasted than most people I see at the gym." I could not care less what you do in your free time, and really I don't give a crap if you're getting stoned at the crag (provided you're not above me). But there is no f*cking way I would put my life in the hands of a belayer that described themselves as 'wasted.'

Its to bad this message string got so off topic.... I climb in IC a lot and its a shame that the money-grubbing cops in the area have finally pushed into the interior of IC. Just a personal story from 3 years ago...as a warning. I was driving out of IC to get water, hit the 191. I was shortly pulled over for "Failure to signal in a merge". My car was then searched (the cop put me in handcuffs when I told him he could not search it), and I was taken to jail for possession of 0.5 g of marijuana that was in my center console. $1200 fine, 3 months probation, and if it happens again its mandatory jail time. Smoking in the desert can be a great experience, but take it from me its not worth it.

Or, D) showing that you do not have the monopoly on data produced by "studies", E) that studies can be interpreted in many ways and, F) some studies are not as valuable as others. Calling me thick does not mean you are right or help your argument. It is just an insult and an opinion, like when I call you a fool who can barely climb at a competent level.
For your information I have spoken to my congressman personally twice this year and have written many letters and have encouraged others to do the same about many topics, this being one of them. Those groups that you belong to have way too much shit in their heads for me to support them with financial assistance. So while I do participate in politics, am not the lazy stoner you wish me to be. This is just my opportunity to call you out on being a sheep who goes along with the herd. For it is either that you are going along with the herd or you really don't support the right to fill your lungs with that "stupid" smoke. Is weed smoking a religion? Well, it certinly gives me more inner- satisfaction than praying to a statue of a naked man, the sun, or aliens, so, sure. If being a religion is what Cannabis "needs" in order to be to be respected, I am sure I can make up a religion that uses weed the same way others have invented religions to justify the use of wine, peyote, pain, torture, even rape.

Jonathan's comment about "smoking above me" reminded me of my first El Cap route. I was leading the Hollow Flake when some dude sprints past me on fixed ropes, yelling, "yeeehaaa!" The anchors below Hollow Flake were new then; my partner and I had bivied on Heart Ledge and the dude juked us from the ground. My partner and I would have had the route to ourselves otherwise. Well, I would've done the same if I'd fixed those ropes. However, Dude and Kid pulled a mini-bong out and smoked at every belay. That's what pissed me off we had to shiver and wait for them to smoke all day long and we didn't reach the Alcove until midnight, and after we had been on pace to reach the top of the Spire. At least the dude lowered a rope for us to jug the final pitch to the bivy (though I was looking forward to freeing it in better conditions). That's all I have to say about that.

How can you call a route classic and grade it when you have never climbed that grade before? What are you comparing it to? Your last 5.8? That my friend, was incredibly lame and dickish.

Wow! If anybody has any more real encounters with cops at the creek I would love to hear about them. I was at Bridger Jacks last weekend and had a very courious newby stop by our site asking lots of questions. It was just a little wierd for the creek.

I got arrested a few years ago on my way out of the creek... But had never seen cops go past newspaper rock until 2 weeks ago.

nippleit wrote:The idea that because one stoned person acts like this all people do is just as bad as logic as the opposite, that is the point. You're intentionally mis-reading Tony. I'm writing you off as a troll. It'd be great if pot were legal so I wouldn't have to hear anymore incoherent stoner-babble on the topic. I like the point that's been ringing around this thread now: Be inconspicuous at the Creek--and anywhere else you go climbing--because many other people are there for what little solitude remains.

The stupidity in this thread is ridiculous. Spark 'em if you got 'em, but please walk a few yards away and be discrete. Remember to share, and be considerate to others. The end.
