Why putting sticker on our helmets?

Hi folks,

I wonder if people buy stickers and put on their helmets in the climbing community. Or is it a ranking thing, that if a climber has been to a climbing festival or attend certain competition, then he/she may have the right to put a sticker on the helmet?

Haha I don't want to be embarrassed to just put random stickers on my helmet when I am not really that good yet.

Mostly I just want to have room for the Ugh face sticker, haha.

A. To personalize it, just like laptops and every other object.

B. To protect it from UV and light abrasion

C. To distinguish it from all of the other blue Half Domes

Because we're all little kids and love stickers, and when we get a new 5.10 or BD diamond we gotta stick em' somewhere.

you can only use stickers if you are sponsored

The very first stickers I put on my helmet were "Don't follow me, I'm lost" on the back of my helmet, the side sticker read, "The devil made me do it" and the front said, "Just a pirate chasing booty. " With all the wear, and tear on Red Rock's long routes, (well, you know... like from common rock fall, swimming in scrub oak, desperate head jams that made sense at the time, and plain ol' clumsiness in chimneys) the only words visible now are ," pirate chasing booty" and "me do it."

Good luck with your stickers, and your climbing! : )

Oops! I did not know this, please forgive me; BD, Wild Country,DMM, Windstopper, The North Face, La Sportiva, Metolious, and the band Ankor for I did not know you must be sponsered to sport their sticker! Hahaha!

My front and center one is a colorful 'Chicks with Picks' sticker which I wear proudly.

Hey Bang it's all about doing what the heck you want...if you want to put Hello Kitty stickers all over your helmet, go for it. Or beer stickers or whatever you get free. It's like skis or a snowboard or a car. Pepper it with whatever makes you "you" or what you associate yourself with or hell whatever is free. Or nothing...same deal. The only rules you "should" comply with in climbing is:
1) CLIMB SAFE
2) treat others with respect
3) treat the environment with respect
4) treat the climb with respect

If you try to do all four of those at all times, I'll give you props..stickers or no stickers.

Climbers who think they're better than others because they can climb harder are douchebags. Climbing is a personal thing. That being said, I'm pretty sure I have bigger balls and can climb harder than everyone who has posted on this. Other climbers can't say what I just said without being douchebags. I can say it however because I'm a badass.

This thread also reminded me that I'm waiting on my free mountainproject stickers!

I don't have any on mine, but it's a 15 odd year old Edelrid that howls like a banshee in the wind. Haven't customized it because I keep telling myself I'm buying a new one.

My girl has a monkey sticker on hers, and one of my partners actually painted hers pink and Bedazzled the damn thing :-| She looks like a climbing disco ball....

Whatever works for you I guess!

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the replies! I totally agree you guys that "climbing is a personal thing", and as long as we respect the climb and others, I think that is enough to make the experience worthwhile!

Lol I guess now I will come up some funny stickers to put on my helmet instead of the generic brand logo :) SO I won't lost my helmet.

Climb safe folks!

My original helmet had a bullseye painted on top. Figured if a rock was coming for me I wanted it to have something to aim at.

Remember seeing a 'this end up'arrow and bullseyes painted on many helmets from back in the 70's era too. Not sure if they had invented the sticker back then.

because you can only put so many stickers on a Nalgene and you gotta have somewhere to show off your free marketing material culled from the gear store sticker box.

You can also take a sharpie and draw a big hairy cock with bulging vains on the side of your helmet as well!

You can always score free stickers at climbing shops...

The only rule for stickers is don't go slapping them on trailhead signs, rock, or anything that isn't leaving with you.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
