Did you hurt my feelings at Movement Climbing Gym Saturday?

On Saturday between the hours of 1:30pm and 1:31pm at the Movement Climbing gym in Boulder someone behind me called me a douche bag and just walked away.
I was climbing in the front part of the gym near the base of the blue route (not bouldering illegally in the roped climbing area).
My self esteem wasn't like this when I arrived at the gym, but the hurt was the first thing I felt when the words first began to echo in my ears.
Obviously from the steathliness of the insult sprayer I would say they are in league with the devil.

I understand HOW these things happen, but what peeves me is he/she left without giving me a chance to redeem myself. They just walked off.
Now if you meant this insult for someone else that's OK, but I would appreciate it if you could PM me so we can work this out.

However if you just insulted me and then walked off and you're reading this right now thinking to yourself I'm not emailing this guy then I really hope that you pop a major tendon the next time you go out climbing that keeps you away from climbing for a LONG time (I don't wish any other bodily harm than this, we are only talking about a lame insult here).
The alternative here is that I've already contacted a higher authorityand my pastor and if I hear another insult in your voice again I'll let Him and you handle it.

Since I'm totally lame (i.e. douchebag) and goto the gym both during lunch and after work chances are I will hear you there.

Holy Crap! I can't believe they let an inner child infraction go unpunished. When lawlessness like this occurs in Boulder, it's only a matter of time until texans move in....

wait a second, is this a trolling post?

Were you wearing a beanie?? In that case it was justified.

But if you are actually being a troll....

Thats pretty lame because I imagine it sucks having your car hit. I think jarthur is being reasonable in his post.

Mark: Thank you for your show of compassion and solidarity.

All others: No I was not shirtless, never would I be so bold. I was simply modestly dressed in a t-shirt depicting the last supper.

I mean what sticks out to me is that it's Kirk and he's just the kitten's milk and everything; but the userid not being from E. Co. Springs --- that's just wrong! & using the "dbag" word, tsk tsk tsk

I think I might know what it was. You mentioned in you second post that you were wearing a T-Shirt that had "The Last Supper" on it. Having been born in Boulder, and feeling that I have a pretty good read on the "pulse" of the city, I would say with 70% certainty that the "douchebag" comment was aimed more at your shirt than at you.

The reason being is that Boulder citizens pride about their progressiveness (which all of us locals, particularly those of us who actually spend time working in the community, know is a very vacant form of progressivism, really bordering more on the line of egotistical nihilism) tends to lead them to critique all things which are have been framed by popular media as "conservative."

Thus your decision to wear a "last supper" t-shirt was interpreted by one of your less than thoughtful fellow town-mates as your assertion that you are anti-gay, anti women as human beings, potentially racist, nearly assuredly anti-Islam--- while at the same time propping up your own religious traditions above and to the exclusion of others (Read: Traditional assumptions about Evangelical Christianity)

I am not making any kind of value judgment, merely pointing out a highly likely scenario for why you received drive-by slander.

Of course if this individual was truly the progressively minded individual they think they are (no doubt), they might have (Gosh Forbid) had the courage to ask you why you were wearing that shirt--in which case you would have had an opportunity to explain yourself in light of that person's assumptions-based-in-anger. Had you asserted that you were Christian and left it at that you probably would have gotten an " . . . oh, cool." If you had proceeded to do anything that could in any way have been construed as proselytizing, on the other hand, the response would likely have been far worse than a mere "douchebag . . ." But alas, this is not how things turned out.

Having spent countless hours in Boulder rock gyms, I am not sure I have ever seen ANYONE wearing a candidly Christian piece of clothing, so with this in mind, I would up my earlier guess to more like 85%.

Hope this clears some stuff up.

PS All the people who were speaking about your shirt, and hat, and all that--they were being sarcastic, they did not expect you to respond honestly. But thankfully you did, as I believe that in so doing you provided the key to this whole unfortunate social encounter.

Keep cranking

As translator of all that is Boulder, let me also hazard the guess that Mark might not in fact be in quite the kind of solidarity that you imagine . . .

I wager 95% verifiability on that.

A camo trucker hat no less.
