I was driving in to get a few climbs in around 4pm and Rocky Mountain Rescue was on their way out... anybody know what happened? I hope anyone involved is ok!

I really do hope the comments about the gentleman getting away with some scrapes and bruises were accurate, but don't I think they are -- based on the ugliness of the fall my partner and I witnessed, and the reports of the folks who where able to make it over to him as first responders.

This was not a fall on scree; it was a BAD fall, and if he pulls through this alright - his helmet probably saved his life. RMR was clearing folks from the wind tower area and preparing lowering stations for the litter, when we left.

The incident occurred below the east face slabs, where you descend and traverse the slippery/wet slabs to drop down to the wind tower trail.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Hope he is alright, too. He sounds like a pretty remarkable fellow for getting after it at 70.

Avery, you'd be surprised what a person can go through and walk away; then again the most innocuous looking fall can be the most life threatening one.

A takeaway I think that helps is that if the person who had an accident doesn't remember what happened or is otherwise unresponsive, a witness can relay to the medic assessing the potential injuries about what they saw, specifically what the climber hit and how they hit or were hit, to give a better picture that can be relayed to those providing definitive care. Granted, it's an emotionally traumatic situation, but this is one time where someone that doesn't have any medical training at all can help a fallen climber by relaying important information.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
