The Mountains Win Again - Blues Traveler

Not that great for getting all phsyched for climbing, but pretty cool for hanging around the campfire afterward.

St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) by John Parr

The song is about being determined to do anything. It was written by David Foster and John Parr for the Canadian athlete Rick Hansen, who at the time was going around the world in his wheelchair to raise awareness for spinal cord injuries.

Lyrics:

Growing up, you don't see the writing on the wall
Passing by, moving straight ahead, you knew it all
But maybe sometime if you feel the pain
You'll find you're all alone, everything has changed

Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free

Chorus:
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
wu........

Burning up, don't know just how far that I can go (just how far I go)
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know I can
You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man

(chorus)
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me, burnin' in me

Just once in his life
A man has his time
And my time is now
I'm coming alive

I can hear the music playin', I can see the banners fly
Feel like you're back again, and hope ridin' high
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire

(chorus)
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazing sky
I'll be where the eagle's flyin' higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's Fire burnin' in me

Burnin', burnin' in me, I can feel it burnin'
Oooh, burnin' inside of me... (to fade)

Here is the lame video for this great song.

I 2nd the Kris (Odub) Hampton albums, a truly hard climber who also makes music.

Rope on Fire by Morphine is a good one too.

My 7 year old niece pointed this song out to me (honest, I swear!)

The Climb” by Miley Cyrus (also known to every little kid in America as Hanna Montana.)

Uh, the song’s not bad, I guess, but the lyrics are pure climbing metaphor and, I have to admit, totally appropriate to the topic. I'm not sure what "faith" she's talkin' about but I'll agree it's necessary to climbing in some form.

Enjoy, you salty bastards:

I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"

Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going

And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on

'Cause there's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody's gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa

Nobody mentioned "Climbing Up The Wall" By Radiohead

A persona favorite is Jedi Mind Tricks. This is some seriously chill absolutely hardcore rap.

Another good artists is Buddy Guy or any Blues for that matter.

Tim Davis wrote:WEEN - "How High Can You Fly?" "Don't Sweat It" "My Own Bare Hands" Not written with climbing as the inspiration, but WEEN is awesome.

Ween actually has a song or two that would make an awesome soundtrack for just about anything you could do in life.

If I listened to music while climbing, I think that Pure Guava beginning to end would make an excellent background to a short multi-pitch route. Ha!

Good belaying song, for when the climber hits the crux - Time after time, Cyndi Lauper. Haha.

I'm just going to lay this right here...Alex Honnold may or may not be naked in it...but Chris Sharma and Khal Drago are definitely stoned...

"Climbing" by the Meat Puppets.
