Has anybody out there climbed anything in the tetons this time of year? I would love to hear about routes up the Grand, Middle, South, or anything else for that matter. Also of interest would be expected snow conditions, equipment used, etc. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.
The Ortenburger/Jackson guidebook has a good section on winter climbing in the Tetons. Actual conditions will be totally dependent on prevailing weather just prior to, and during, your ascent. If no trails are broken into your objective, then it can be an arduous slog to get anywhere, and one-day ascents become problematic. Avalanches are of course another factor. The peaks you mention usually see multiple ascents in a winter season, though this year has seen very little activity due to the general storminess that has prevailed. The Middle and South are good and relatively safe objectives for a first winter visit to the range. Talk with the rangers for immediate reports, if any, on the high peaks. Today would be a very nice day on Grand Teton....
