Sport Climbing?

I'm heading out to Moab on Thursday and was wondering if there was any sport climbing or if it is all just trad? Any recommendations for bouldering, sport climbing or top rope? I would appreciate any help, because I have never been out there and don't have a guide book.

the only sport climbing i can think of is along wall street. you can find out where that is by doing a little research on this website. bouldering? i think on river road there are plenty of routes (again, see this website for where river road is.) top rope? me thinks no.

even the sport climbing tends to be pretty sporty - you may need gear or to run things out.

the bouldering at big bend is killer. that is your best bet if you don't want to plug in cams.

First off, you're going to need to get a guidebook. Moab isn't an area where you just wander around without directions. It would be easier to do that if you had gear, but just clipping bolts could get you into trouble without a book.

Also, I love bouldering at Big Bend, especially Circus Trick, but it may not be worth the drive from Fort Collins if that's all you're going to do. Most of the problems there can be ticked in a day. It's an amazing area, but not climbing trad will severely limit what you can climb. I also cannot think of any toproping in the area.

Ice Cream Parlor in Kane Creek has some sport routes (about 4-6?) All pretty easy 5.6->5.9. Some are not in the guidebooks, but a guidebook can get you to the general area.

Stop by any climbing shop in town and peruse a guidebook. It gets afternoon sun.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
