Description

The Don Wall is the east facing wall seen to the right of the prominent central arete of the Nose. While it gets some sun early, it is in the shade by the afternoon. This wall is home to several fun bolted lines and the Flywalk (one of the first climbs established at Stonehouse). Some of the climbs here are accessed via a small ledge at the left end of the wall above a very significant drop. There are convenient belay anchors here to keep you from falling over the edge to the base of the Lower Wall.

Getting There

Access the Don Wall by taking the hiking trail from the overlook at the top of the crag (climber’s left) downhill a short way to an unmarked trail junction. Turn left and follow a climber’s trail sharply downhill for 100 yards, passing the Geezer Wall, to the water’s edge and the base of the Lower Wall. Walk to the right end of the Lower Wall and head up through the “Tunnel” (a four foot wide slot in the rock) to an open area below the Don Wall and Swiss Wall. The Don Wall is on the left side of the big inside corner (The Flywalk route) that splits the two zones.
The two left-most bolted routes start at a small ledge 35 feet up a steep slab scramble. Approach with caution! The other two routes start near the big beech tree at the right side of the wall.
While the Don Wall can also be approached by traversing rightwards around from the Nose, this is not recommended. A slip from here could result in a 75 foot fall to the base of the Lower Wall.
