Description
Courthouse rock is the eastern most formation in the Tusher canyon area. The most notable feature here is probably Slickenslides arch on the NE side of the formation, named for the geologic “slickensides” that can be seen all around courthouse rock.
The area has a largely undocumented climbing history, but contains many adventurous routes up its various summits, as well as opportunity for new development. As with most climbing in the Tusher area one should expect loose and soft rock on most routes.
Getting There
From the intersection of hwy 191 and river road near Moab, take hwy 191 north for 13.4 miles to the mill canyon turn off - BLM rd 215. Take this good dirt road staying left at each intersection for 1.7 miles to a right turn for the dispersed camping area below slickenslides arch. For access to the south side of the formation continue on BLM 215 another 0.4 miles and turn up the old sand hill climb road on the right. Take this to the top of the hill to a small parking area where the road gets rough. A stock 4x4 can continue on this road as it loops around the formation toward mill and tusher canyons
