Description
Remote mountain in Montreal River Harbor past Panama Wall with 20+ ice climbs. Single pitch up to 60m or two pitch routes. WI2+ to WI5-
Moose Mountain is one of the many great areas of Algoma where it’s about as alpine feeling as it gets without being in the great ranges east or west. Its advise or recommend climbers be fully prepared for alpine ice conditions. Research the area and plan ahead of time to fair well in this area as it’s remote and can experience weather or conditions not unlike those found in the Rockies.
Getting There
Park at the bridge pull out near the Montreal lake dam. This is same parking location location as for Panama Wall and Ryall Wall (Aurora and mother of pearl). Take the exact same approach for Aurora walking north on Hwy 17 for 10-15 minutes, then hop the rail on the right side hugging the bank of the marsh until you get to the woods. Take the easiest path all the way through the valley past Panama wall where you’ll encounter a small stream crossing. Cross over the stream and continue West by South west along the base of the mountain until you start to see the ice climbs to the left. Keep going all the way around until you see the clearing and the river to access the biggest most south facing climbs.
