Description
This is a neat and secluded climbing area deep in the Richland Creek region. A variety of quality routes from 5.7 through 5.12 are here, including the the gem of a route The Brambler (5.10c).
Getting There
Driving: Take Herbert Hampton Rd (NC5070) passing Lurton Assembly of God and continue onto dirt road. Continue on and keep right onto NC5080 at the first major fork where a house with a confederate flag is seen at the left fork. Continue on for 1.6 miles until another fork at the bottom of a hill and just before the road goes steeply uphill again. Turn left here onto NC5083 and continue on this road for 5.2 miles passing the Gene Rush sign. Continue another 2.9 miles past the sign until a green AGFC gate is seen on the right and where the road you’re on sharply turns left.
Hiking: take a faint trail 50 feet right of the gate or bushwhack downhill until you reach an old dirt road. Continue down this to the right until the road levels out at a fork. Go right and downhill further passing some boulders on the left. When you see a small cairn 100’ below the cliff, take the faint trail/bushwhack up to the cliff line. There are more cairns past that to follow to the Wall of Things at Horn Mountain.
