Description

A south-facing granite cliff with several nice one-pitch routes. It is located just north of Arnold Pond, along the Arnold Trail.

The left sector of this cliff has a number of classic vertical crack lines that can be protected with trad gear. If you enjoy finger, hand, and fist jamming, and a little bit of offwidth, this small crag offers some really enjoyable climbing.

The right sector lacks obvious vertical lines and at this time (October 2025) there are no known routes in this sector.

Getting There

From the southeast (Eustis/Stratton): Travel NW from Eustis on route 27. As you approach the Chain of Ponds, you will pass the "Maine DOT Gold Brook Lot", which is marked with a green sign. The parking pullout for Benedict Bluff is approximately 10 miles (16 km) past the Gold Brook Lot, on the right side of the road, 40 meters past utility pole 22. Park next to a small mossy boulder.

From the northwest (Coburn Gore): Travel SE from Coburn Gore on route 27. The parking pullout for Benedict Bluff is located 1.1 miles (1.8 km) from the international border, on the left side of the road, 40 meters NW of utility pole 22. Park next to a small mossy boulder.

From the parking pullout, the crag is visible from the road, and a very short trail (starting just right of the mossy boulder) leads up to the left side of the left sector of the cliff. From there, follow the trail to the right to access the middle and right side of the left sector. The right sector of the rock can be reached by heading up and right from the far right side of the left sector.
