Description
During hot day, this is a gem to climb with its unique semi-textured rock. Enough routes for a full day and great spot to set up lots of TRs.
Getting There
CFB Fearwater and Creag Na Coille are located in the woods east of the Shearwater Flyer Trail on the Dartmouth side near Cole Harbour. Take Hwy 111 if crossing from MacKay Bridge, or work your way to Portland St if crossing the MacDonald Bridge. Follow Portland St for 4.6km. Turn right on Bisset Rd and continue along for 3.1kms. This will bring you to the parking lot for the Shearwater Flyer Trail (on the right) and the Salt Marsh Trail (on the left). You can park here if you want to explore Creag Na Coille.
CFB Fearwater is located 1.3km past the trailhead for the Shearwater Flyer Trail. Look for a prominent rock outcrop on the right with a telephone pole in front of it with "243" painted on it in red. Park on the shoulder of the road where it is wide enough to get your car completely off the road. Facing the outcrop, break through the brush on the left side into a trough, which you will follow along until you start to see orange markers and the well travelled trail. The trail continues to wind along through the woods until you end up on a rocky ridge, which you follow along almost until it ends. You will see the crag on the next ridge to your left. Look for a small cairn that indicates the best place to go down and cross over to the base.
