Description Suggest change

This area includes the Great Arch itself at the top of the hill, long with the face climbing and minor caves in the vicinity. All climbing in this area requires ascending one of the stairways (front or back) to access.

Getting There Suggest change

From Getu village, head north to the park gate. If you haven't already, stop at the tourist center to get your park pass (as of 2024, this was still CN¥125 for the day, or CN¥150 for the week). Catch a ride on one of the electric carts, or walk in, to the first walking path to the right; follow this path to the river. From here two choices to get up to the Great Arch.

To go up the front, head down the stairs to the river and catch a ride from the ferry across the river and slightly west to the base of the stairs. Proceed up the ~1,500 steps that cut back and forth across the face of the hill, and in the front of the cave.

Alternatively, stay on the upper path, and enter the main cave (along the lefthand wall). Following this path will take you up a long and circuitous route across a bride through the main cave, up the hill inside, through a tunnel cut into the wall, and eventually into the back entrance of the main cave. This route, while much longer, has the advantage of not requiring a ferry ride, and hence may be a good idea for leaving later in the day after the ferry stops running.
